First of all, Hello Nan! Hello Hippie Hello Everybody!!
Hope everyone had a great christmas... Mine was wonderful!!
Lotsa Family, good food and special moments....
X-mas eve on the other hand....
Now on to business at....
My buddies freezer chamber is coming along nicely, he has gleaned virtually
everything available on the web-boards, He has done signifigant cutting, planning, and purchasing of materials, but I will post everything he told
me in the Freezer chamber thread. He is taking pix tonight of at least the freezer chamber and his two styrofoam terrariums. hopes to have them developed tommorow and in his sweaty little hands to be scanned by friday.
Lessee... Styrofoam chambers... I have another thread for those to, will
post updates on the verm cased pints inside on that thread when I get a chance...
Now on to my buddies x-mas eve......:
Extremely worried about my buddies terrarium and about the 16 ( approx )
cakes that were inside. Half of the cakes fruiting had a greenish-brown mold around the bottom. Not good. Those cakes and thier fruits are now buried in
multiple folgers coffee cans under soil and verm. The remaining cakes showing no signs of contam are sitting in his fridge cleaned, washed, in individual plastic bags until he has time to take on the terrarium. which will not be easy to do anytime soon. His girlfriend cooked about a dozen large second flush caps he was printing in the oven, on a large TUPPERWARE lid with glass over it, preheating the oven to make lasagna on x-mas eve. That was fun. The freezer chamber was open, tools all around, in front of a large plate glass window which she opened in a panic, which also exposes a view to about 20 other condo units... The freezer looked suspicious, what with holes 3 inches around in the bottom and 2" tubing wired in
snaking to the top with nozzle holes in the tubing for max fresh air..
It no longer looks like a freezer inside. It looks like a god-damned illegal something or other... Looks like a grow chamber, My buddy has probably spent no less than 6 complete work hours on it so far... Then the fire alarm went off. House is full of smoke, terrariums are not covered, ANYONE who might have come by could have looked into all the windows she opened and seen EVERYTHING. My buddy did. He wasn't there during the first part. While walking back from the community mailbox he heard a smoke alarm going off and didn't think much of it. Then he saw the smoke and THEN he looked in the windows on his way to the door.
Oh my god. Bad scene. Can't even descibe it properly to make anyone understand. He rushed in, pushed pass his girlfriend who was crying and freaking out, first ripped the shrieking fire alarm out of the wall, then went to the kitchen and grabbed some baking soda and put out the fire, and then rushed around the house closing all the shades she had opened. Then it got crazier. Blankets over all terrariums, tools away from the freezer, people knocking on the door, girlfriend beside herself and incapable of doing anything but crying.
Somehow, after all of that it seems nobody managed to see what was really going on. Jesus CHrist, my buddy was worried. This is the second time he was almost found out, and he is only three months into his mycology studies. The first was
a water main breaking under his nieghbors apt. Another thread.. Another close call....
MY buddy is now tripling his efforts to get the freezer chamber running as he now understands the complete peril of living in a country where mushrooms are illegal. And in a state that is PARTICULARY rough on mushroom cultivators.
He is not giving up, but by the weekend ( Hopefully ) will have anything potentially incriminating under lock and key... It's just there is so much stuff, so many materials... it's intimidating the actual bulk of things he has created, built and grown...
The kicker to that whole story is, His girlfriend actually did the printing process for him, and had placed the tray into the oven the day before...
So it was her fault all the way, he didn't even know where she had put it though he usually uses the oven himself....
Oh yea, back to where I was.. MY buddy can now no longer use the oven for awhile as is FULL of melted plastic, broken glass, and baking soda...
He needs to use the oven to sterilize the contaminated perlite....
Right? Will the pressure cooker work???
He needs new perlite, to take the HUGE heavy glass tank and sterilize it and so much more..
Geez.... He is so far behind here, he has dozens of relavant new questions to ask but time is very precious lately... He has two full boxes of jars to birth,
and his birdseed quarts ( 12 ) are all about ready to case... Running out
of energy to keep up with his life... Anyone got some good coke???
Hey, I always babble about me and my buddy, don't wanna waste anyones time but it is good therapy for me to get it all out on paper for him, if ya get my drift... If you read all this, god bless your heart...
Will try to post some REAL info and questions if there is enough time in the day... Which is really kinda unlikely come to think of it as a whole slew of unrelated/unmentioned problems is on my shoulders at this moment and not leaving anytime soon... Talk to you people again when I get the chance, and WILL take those pix tonight...
Peace out all. Thanks for listening,....
