Ham! Where are you?

Some cool stuff I got lately, some 60ML syringe and long as inoculation needle, new scalpel (LOVE this!), some slant racks (just for storage, need an autoclaveable one still.), and a set of new autoclaveable plastic lids and matching SFDs to go underneath.

The best score is coming in the mail, this awesome used Waring/Erberbach labratory blender.
Comes with 3 containers! Each of those sell for like 300$ new for some reason, I got a wicked deal on this.

Also bought a bunsen burner today, man theyre cheap. Found one for 3 bucks!

This sure beats the hell out of mixing up substrates in a bucket with a hand shovel!

Made 6 sawdust bags and 4 bags worth of coir based sub with it the other night after getting the mixer. Worked well. Until I got to the coir and halfway through mixing it popped out of the chuck somehow. I thought I tightened it pretty well, but the shaft is about as big as the chuck in the drill can fit. The chuck gouged the shaft a little bit, but it continued to work fine after clamping it back in. $5 well spent and no more cramping hands!

It was free. I'll upgrade when it dies. What model is that makita? Is that a 1/2" angle drill? I like the handle placements for this purpose.

What are you mixing up in that pot? I see oats that look like they are in colonized clumps. Are you breaking up colonized grains in a pot of water this way? Or are you mixing the colonized grains into substrate in the pot?

It took me 3 hours to build 2 magnetic stirrers.
Once I started the project It came together without much thought,

The magnets (2 magnets came out of one hard drive). Ten minutes to remove the magnets.

The computer fans 120x120x25mm or 4.7"x4.7" cost 6 dollars a piece.

I have a 120ac to 9vdc wall adapter that powers both units.

No speed controller or on off switches.

The stir magnets came from e-bay, 8 assorted stir magnets for ten bucks with free shipping.

The fan was hot glued in place in a small wooden frame that had a 5"x5" opening area.

Plastic top.. Very simple to build.

I use 1 gram of light malt extract to 500 ml. water, pc for thirty minutes. No sugar syrup or honey.

After pc I use a sandwich bag with a rubber band over a tall pint jar. The plastic sandwich bag will never be removed for the life of the lc.

I only use new syringes and needles and puncture all hole through the plastic bag, after I tape over the puncher hole.

In one year I had only one jar go bad with bacteria, and that was the only time I didn't use a new syringe and needle.

Any question feel free to pm me...

Nice stirrer, your process is ridiculous. You never sterilize and reuse syringes? :tweak:
I've been pc'ing my 140ml in tall pickle jars and then they can sit until I need them. Whatevs

Hey camplo..

Every time I go to the feed store to buy ten kilos of oats I always buy ten syringes and number 16 needles.

In Mexico syringes and needles are dirt cheap..

I set out to prove to myself that lc's can be produce with a high degree of contaminates free.

This is only a hobby to me, and I am quite convince that most lc fails are from improper sterilization of the needle or the syringe...  This is the reason I use only new syringes and needles..

The fun of this hobby is to achieve new challenges and to advance to new  levels.

Love the stirrers! When my phone charges Ill post a photo of mine.. its a simple stirrer meant for stirring brewers yeast cultures. I think the guy I bought it from has a little business making them, works nice

Ive started learning liquid cultures a bit, Ive never used them much. I blend up my agar wedge in sterilized Eberbach and pour it into a flask with liquid broth, then put it on the spinner to colonize.

How fast do you mix your cultures?

I just bought all the stuff off ebay to make myself a cheap stir plate. I'm pretty excited about it.
Also bought a 25kg bag of gypsum, cost like 30 bucks
and a big 4cu ft of verm for 50 bucks. So tired of buying 8q for 10$

no idea where I'm going to store these giant bags of sub but I can't play around trying to bust up drywall anymore.

8qt for ten bux is outrageous! The flower stores sell that price around here , Lowe's has it for like 3 bux a bag or so. Verm is out of season evetywhere here so I have to leave it out of my coir subs now. Im gunna try to find those big bags like you got.

I use a bag of gypsum too I buy 10 lb bags and they last a while.

This is the stirrer I have the guy sells them for like 40$ but I got mine for 25. Im probably going to want a few stir plates so I think Ill make those myself.

This plate is essentially a box that stirs. Stirs well you can adjust the speed however you need.
