never tried it myself, but with a needle with a bigger hole then this one it
might work. still i think for liquids a cotton swab would prolly be better.

I felt compelled to post in this thread....the only tool I've made by my own design to date is this alcohol lamp...it's cheap af and effective as it gets....when we were without power I filled with 90% isopropyl to light an entire couple of rooms....but the regular clean burning fuel doesn't burn bright...just hot and clean....
This is a flame sterilizing lamp made out of an 8oz jar and a cotton ball. The jar lid has a small hole punched in it and a cotton ball has been rolled out to be a wick...it runs off alcohol..,the cleanest burner I've found yet is "denatured alcohol" which flame sterilizes a needle without leaving black soot. 91% isopropyl has been used several times with success but leaves soot....

Cheap af way to sterilize needle tips, scalpels, and loops.

Butane seems to be a clean burner from my experiences.

Adjustable from torch to lighter style flame. Blazer few!

It would work Im sure but its kinda rough, might damage spores or poke through foil prints.

This is a real loop, all it is is a handle, and it cane wit a bag of 2" sections of nichrone wire. Just straight wire, you are supposed to make the looop whatever size y ou want and trim , hold in the handle.

I wrap my wire around the stick of a Q tip and cut the cotton tip off to slide the wire loop out.

You could easily make one out of an e xacto knife type handle and any piece of thin wire that could handle flame.  Maybe the thin wire in the paper  'twist ties that come with garvage bag

It would work better from a spore print, then swiping to agar. But, I suppose spore solution would work, just might take a bit longer to see germination in your plates.

Oh I actually thought you were going to use that to take from print

You would do better to sterilize some cotton swabs wrapped in foil packets in a jar with GE lid.
Drop spores onto swab to swipe print w ith

Custom Built high capacity dehydrator total cost: $55

This was instructed from a single 4'x8' piece of plywood, I cut 14 inches off each of the 4' side (1 20"x8' and 2 14"x8' strips. Then I made two 20"x34" panels, 2 14"x34" panels,  and 2 20"x 14" panels.) I also used an 8' 2" strip to make 6 13" strips. I got the wire rack from a thrift store and sawed it to size.

Still want to add a desk fan or two before I test it but it should work great.

Looks nice!

Is that bottom wire rack held together in the middle with duct tape tho? Once it gets hot in there that shelf is gonna collapse under it's own weight.

How hot does that heater get? If I were to build that I would try to close off that bottom area where the heater fan is. Like with another piece of plywood with a big hole cut in it for the fan to stick through up into the chamber. That way the heater fan pulls in fresh air from the side holes through the heater and then blows all the hot air up into the drying chamber, instead of it being able to suck back in the air it just heated rep. It may burn out prematurely if it can just keep sucking in hot air to heat instead of fresh air.

More air direction and more steady supply from outside air...will add more intake holes after my drill charges back up!

Well, I was thinking more of a round hole that the fan housing would fit snuggly in and you would seal around the edges with some rubber of some sort. But that will probably help as you have it.

You can't beat those scales for the price. I have the same ones, have used them almost everyday for a year.

The sunbeam heater/fan on the low heat setting worked to sufficiently dry a few fruits and it stayed in without overheating. I could feel the hot hair getting sucked in from the outside through the hole the power cord comes through. I think I will still be adding a few more intake holes tomorrow morning it seems I forgotmtomcharge my drill earlier.

I have that exact same scale too. I paid like 10 bucks for it on ebay. Then I spent like another 5 bucks on 200 and 500 gram calibration weights and the scale has worked perfectly for like 2 years. Anyway, my new tool of the trade is in my sig
