Got this "easy release" ice cube tray. They can be got on ebay too.

Have to see if it will hold up to heat, will stick it in some boiling water, if it begins to warp then I have a new ice cube tray, no loss... It looks and feels like PP5, the purple bits are silicone to make the ice easy to pop out while the rest is stiff.

Plan is to fill them with agar and sterilize it in a larger transparent PP5 tub, I will have to cut off 1 row of 3 to fit in my intended container. There are a few ways I could inoculate. I could make a load of SHIPs on my larger container. Or could do it in an SAB. I also wondered about having quite weak spore solution and squirting a full syringe across the top of it from a single SHIP going in the side of the tub, so each mini dish would get some solution, then maybe even tilt it so excess water pours off and into the bottom of the large container, hopefully leaving some spore solution in each mini dish.

If I do have individual SHIPs I was wondering if it contaminated could I inject salt water or something else directly into the contaminated dishes. This is the main problem I foresee, cross contamination buy having loads of dishes in the same environment.

If you had an already clean culture you could be making multiple clean mini dishes. And since it is made to be easy to pop it could be useful for doing that tiger drop technique. The tray could be cut up into smaller sections of 3 or 4 and put in smaller jars, or single ones.

Growth may also be more visible in contrast to the darker base, without need for food colouring.

I also was thinking of having perlite in my large tub which may help promote pinning. My plan was to try and get a cold growing strain and having lots of these mini dishes going at once. People have said pins usually occur when fully colonised, and these small ones should colonise very fast. I was also thinking my larger tub could have holes in it to be like a mini monotub. Large filtered holes might make it possible to do the whole thing in a microwave.

EDIT: I boiled water in them and the plastic seems fine.

Use em. You can put a few different inoc points on em as long as you don't let em grow into each other

Just bought a new type of coir.  Not really sure how hydrated it is, but I'm glad that I don't have to take a pick-axe to my 5kg bricks anymore.  Anyone use this before?

even though the large ass bricks are cheaper, i still buy the 650g bricks.  its just too easy.

i've never used the loose coir before.  i think azure has used it though.

got a few new scalpels.  this is spear head.  I'm switching to non detachable tools.  the scalpel blades don't fit well on my stem anymore.  come loose after several transfers, i think i flamed it so much, it must have warped.  got a few more besides this, but no picture.  they are all curved at the end, like a spoon, so will be awesome for slants.  downside is not as sharp as surgical scalpels, but have not had trouble with transfers yet.

damn, az beat me lol

the spear head from FP, the 4 piece set is amazon here

i don't like buying from FP, cause they sock it to u on the mark up usually, but i couldn't find it anywhere else.  its $10/spear.  handle is about 7" long i think

they have good prices on hood blowers, but everything else they sell seems pricey, i dunno, maybe its me.

he has quality stuff, its just the mark up kills me.  its almost like he knows he is the "household name" for anything mushrooms, and takes advantage of that with pricing, but who am i to judge.

Yea. He's a hustler. And while he is very knowledgeable and i admire him, it's becoming more apparent that he actually does care more about money than he claims to care about the earth. If he hadn't, he'd be sharing more and patenting less

Another thing I don't like is their shipping charges.  To my knowledge, they don't offer free shipping, even on large orders.  Considering the markup, I feel like they could be a bit more reasonable in that department.

one item that is a must in this lab that i have never really mentioned.

coca cola racks.

they are perfect for hauling 12 quarts up stairs. you can store quarts, harvest fruits, carry things in bulk, stack them and carry a double load. and best part is, they are usually free behind your local supermarket building. i can't tell you how much effort and work has been saved from having 4 coca cola racks.

Many sincere apologies, my friend. I should have put a smiley there, because I was smiling when I wrote it. I meant you no harm, at all, nothing but admiration.

Sorry.
