Why would you take a supplement made in a factory by some corporation when there are fresh things in nature that already give you everything your body needs to stay healthy?

That's what I don't get.

To me, most vegans and vegetarians do it as some sort of fashion statement.

I just have a hard time eating things that used to have a face I guess.

I'm probably going to come off as an asshole, but get over it.

I understand being disgusted with raising animals and killing them the way they do for mass consumption because it is fucked up.

But would you be against it if you had to be self sufficient with no supermarkets or anything?
If you grew your own food and had some chickens and a cow or two and you had to sacrifice some in order to survive, would you rather die of malnutrition instead?

I started eating vegetarian a few weeks ago. I almost completely lost my appetite for meat.

Eating meat is cool for survival but in modern society it's largely unnecessary.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jainism

Lots of followers of this religion just only eat fruits/vegetables/nuts that won't kill the plant when you remove them from the plant itself. Just no rooted vegetables.

And if you are growing your own fruits/veggies you know you aren't personally killing any field mice when you walk out to your greenhouse and cut off some lettuce leaves.

If you truly care about life on this planet you could do that, and also walk around with sheets on your feet/watching your steps so you avoid killing bugs.

I thought about vegetarians on the way to Costco where you can get the best New York strips in town or a whole cow I guess.  Great flavor in those Costco steaks.  I ate this fillet on my birthday you could cut with a fork.  Garlic mashed red potatoes and asparagus with a topping of backfin lump crabmeat and a Bernaise .

Yeah, fuck a bunch of weed chomping and munching on picnic tables like you are some kind of grotesque termite.  And for what gain?  To save a couple of bucks?  Health?  Bullshit, all of it.  Nobody gets out of life alive and you definitely do not want to die and feel like a fool because you had a heart attack at age 45 after denying yourself the pleasures of plate and bottle.

Not eating meat makes you puke? News to me.

Also, if you're gonna pull numbers out of your ass at least round up to the nearest 5.

The animals involved in mass production of red meat are brought up in horrible conditions and pumped full of hormones. Not to mention some are basically tortured to death.

I've never understood why people don't just eat mussels/scallops for a meat source if they feel bad about killing animals. They don't have brains, how is it any worse than eating a plant? Seafood is generally better for you anyways, seems like a win-win.

OMG!!!  Another morally superior hipster!  Those poor (tasty) animals!  Oh the suffering!  Go watch an episode of Wild Kingdom and have an all-beef hotdog instead of being a prize jackass.

i was referring to the comment that seafood is better for you. he forgot to mention the mercury limits that we're resrticted to eating. whatever you say doesn't mean fish is safe to eat everyday. i once saw actual pools of mercury at the base of spines from bluegill in triangle lake oregon. i told the ranger and he told me to keep my mouth shut. i checked the fish up above at little lake with no houses or boats, the fish were clean as could be, one mile away. this is citizen science and you can do it yourself. alot of agencies depend on our data since data collection is normally very costly. as long as the results are replicated, then it's of value to agencies studying this or that and can lead them in directions they never would have thought of.

no bee honey, dairy, even bug eaten fruit could be suspect. i spent 5 years being vegan but i ate honey. also no leather or fur, animal tested products, bonemeal, manure, and bloodmeal used on organic farms are also a vegan issue. there's more but those are the basics. even eating fruit from an orchard pollinated by an imprisoned bee hive could become suspect. i was never this strict, and i have never met one who is, but this all falls under the description of veganism.
