> Mr. Romano Prodi, the President of the European Union Commission who was part of the US/EU Summit in Washington, DC, today disagreed with GW Bush regarding Hamas. As Prodi pointed out, Hamas is not simply a military group, but is involved with hospitals, doctors, medicine, education, welfare and is a vital part of Palestinian society.

[oh god no---welfare?!!!]

Bush had shown his simplistic lack of knowledge of Hamas, as he has
also done with his comments on Hezbollah, by saying that Hamas was "a
terrorist group that must be completely dismantled." Fortunately, for
the sake of reality, Prodi made his statements in public and also in
interviews with the BBC. Unfortunately, most American media outlets
did not post his informed and mature views. Mr. Bush seems to be either morally blind or else the moral and thinking parts of his brain do not function. Clearly, when Sharon continues attacking and killing women, children, and innocent bystanders in Palestine - under the guise of "security" - and Bush ignores it - something is missing in Bush. Some may blame the strong Zionist lobby and AIPAC - but remember this: Bush is the
president and has great powers; he should stand up and not fear the
Zionist lobby. As I pointed out several months ago, if the Zionist lobby
was so strong, how is it that the Gore/Lieberman ticket lost in the
last election. No, there is something fundamentally missing in Bush's
thought and moral processes; thus, it was a relief that Mr. Prodi corrected
the simplistic comments of President Bush.

As Prodi and most educated people know, and as was voiced by both
Mahmoud Abbass of Palestine, and the Christian President of Lebanon, Emile Lahoud, these two organizations are integral parts of their societies in both Palestine and Lebanon. But GW Bush keeps saying they must be "destroyed" - or on other days he says, "dismantled" --the meaning is the same.

other hand, Hamas' response is that they must answer the terrorism of Sharon with terrorism of their own . Personally, I don't agree with this harmful policy. But, as one of their spokemen said, it is their privilege, especially since they live under this 24 hour-a-day oppression and attack, to call make their own decisions.
