A question needs an answer!
    #1650227 - 06/21/03 04:06 AM (13 years, 5 months ago)

If you believe in an afterlife,
then how can you prove,
that you're not dead right now?

There's some good logic... um... wait...

Shouldn't we be tired of the whole solipsistic-like uber-doubt?
What's the point of going through such thought modes if an answer is unfalsifiable?  If we're being tricked so well by some grand illusion, then why should we really give a crap if it's working out okay?

Let me put this a different way...
[Matrix]
If no anomalies are noticed by us, then it doesn't matter if we're under the spell of some grand illusion.  The "truth behind the curtain" only matters when problems arise and we start to notice certain things that are incongruent with the percieved nature of the "reality" we are submersed in.
[/Matrix]

If it WORKS, don't fix it.

ignorance is bliss... some say that the more you know the unhappier you are...

--------------------
No one knows the worth of innocence till he knows it is gone forever, and that money can't buy it back. Not the saint, but the sinner that repenteth, is he to whom the full length and breadth, and height and depth, of life's meaning is revealed. Good and evil loose all objective meaning and are seen as equally necessary and contrasting elements in the masterpiece that is the universe.

I totally agree. I've been trying to say this in so many posts lately. I just couldn't find the right words I suppose.

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

So we should "just believe" in an afterlife in spite of the philosophical problems? Being tired is no excuse to drop skepticism.

You are assuming that he hasn't noticed these anomalies... Which, considering the nature of his question, it seems he has.

I for one, do notice. All the time.

*pinches himself*
Am I dreaming? Am I dead? Am I human?

that's a good question.. but I think by definition the afterlife is not the life we're living now.

but of course, there's no way to know for sure.

In a sense, we are already dead..

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.
