Anyone else feel markedly less healthy during the fall/winter months??
    #15191405 -

So I've noticed the past couple years, that I both feel and look much worse during the colder seasons of the year. Like, my skin just doesn't look right at all, maybe the cold has a drying-out effect on my body? I also wake up with really tired feeling eyes, sometimes they just stay feeling this way the entire day. It's pretty annoying.

This summer (the past few months) I was both feeling and looking pretty good. Maybe this just has to do with having more access to the sun and its vitamin D. I just feel like almost as soon as the cold rainy season shows up, I both feel and look like a much shittier version of myself

Anybody else notice this type of thing, or am I just a weirdo?

I love the beautiful silence and calm of a walk through the woods at night in the winter with the moon shining brightly. The effect is multiplied if a friend and/or a bowl is present.

But other than that... business as usual in the winter does kind of suck. I'm not too sure, but I think maybe what you experience is at least somewhat normal.

No, I absolutely love the winter.  In Florida, I get much more sun in the winter than the summer.  So hot during the summer you can't do anything but sit inside all day.  In winter, I have all the windows open when it's 35F, and get 10 blankets and curl into a massive ball at night, and eat tons of cinnamon and nutmeg and hot chocolate and warm food.  Drink lots of tea that I can't drink in the summer, get much more active, get out more, and just live a better life.  The winter is my time.  But unfortunately it doesn't start here until around the end of November.  At that point it might start getting into the 70s in the day.  Then a few mornings of 30F, afternoons of 45F, and then it's spring.

But I absolutely love the fuck out of it, and look forward to it all year.  The dry cold air does make me go through a whole lot more chap stick, but other than that, everything's amazing.  Love sunbathing when I'm safe from heat stroke.  Always get really tanned in the dead of summer.  Lay on the beach all day in the warm sun or something.  Mmmm.

Just two more months.  I'm very excited.

If you live in Michigan or something where it's like -30 in the winter, that's probably it.  I probably wouldn't feel good in that weather either.  But live in 100 degree suffocatingly humid weather, and that'll be what kills ya.

It sucks not being able to wear shorts.
The cold air is constantly licking my tits and tender nutsack.
I think the lack of sunlight is the biggest tragedy. I think lack of sunlight adds to depression because it contains of vitamin D:strokebeard:

Lack of sunlight = Lack of vitamin D = Depression

I live in on the outskirts of town in a rural area, so the snow/ice makes treks to class and work kind of a bitch.

You mean the time of year every other animal in the world goes into some type of hibernation, energy conservation mode, while we work and stay up? Pfft yes! Winter is when people are supposed to stay indoors and add weight to survive, not drive to work in no sun and drive home with even less. Vitamin D supplementation comes from cooked mushrooms, meat, and sun helps us make our own, or take a pill every day from here til spring.

I challenge you to challenge yourself more! When you feel complacent and ready to hang it up, challenge yourself to get over it! If you fail, don't look at it as you didn't succeed, look at it as you would a rock face you're trying to climb. Stand back, wayyyy back, and look at it and plot another path. If you can't find one, shuffle down the way a little, a little change of scenery or a view from a different angle may give you the insight you need.

I really hate the fuckin winter here in the north. Like people have said, vitamin D3 is important but don't overdo it. 1000 IU should be enough if you have a normal diet and 2000 would definitely be plenty unless you have some sort of medical condition. You can always get a quick blood test to see whether you have a deficiency and how bad it is.

I would also recommend good, bright, full-spectrum lighting in your living and work areas, plus as many big lush green plants as you can fit. It's relatively cheap and easy, but it really makes a difference and is totally worth it for me anyway.

Oh, and I also really suggest you get an ultrasonic humidifier and use it for its intended purpose (ie. humidifying the air to a comfortable level, not growing mushrooms ). That's another good investment since it makes winters a lot more bearable and you can use it pretty much forever.

I get more pale, tend to eat more and workout less in the winter, so...yeah.
