post-mortem meditation
    #14665471 -

here's an interesting video/report of a tibetan monk who stayed in a post-mortem state of meditation for 18 days while his body showed no signs of decay, etc.

i think accounts like this can help one gain faith in the power of a life of meditation, and also in how the mind survives physical death

thoughts? :sun:

Can't pull it up due to being on my phone but I am really interested in this and will get to it later on today! I find Tibetan monks to be some of the most interesting; fron what ive read they only opened there borders and allowed for people to visit there temples starting in the 80s, which in turn has kept there old ways of doing things pretty constant.

Thanks for posting brother, I really appreciate it; can't wait to get home to watch this.

That was interesting but non-conclusive. (of course)

Tibetan buddhism is far too mystical for my taste...but the focus on death, being aware during the process of dying...I think there might be some value in that.

Not sure what, but if anything is worthwhile in this life it's preparing for death.

when you learn the theory behind the practices etc, tibetan buddhism becomes demystified to a degree - if you don't study the theory then the practices might seem like superstitious rituals

it's really worth checking out if you feel so inclined :sun:

GI follow Gregg Braden and his work, don't know if you've herd of him but I really enjoy what he has to say on feelings and emotions; he likes to call it the Divine Matrix. Point being, he talks a lot about Tibetan Buddhism and their practices. I am definitely going to look more into the practice myself; really intrigues me. Any advice on where to begin deff.

if you're really interested i suggest you find a tibetan buddhist centre and attend some teachings - i love receiving teachings in person as opposed to just reading them personally. also, that way you can clarify your understanding through asking questions.

as for the actual practices, it's absolutely critical to have a guru. a major part of tibetan buddhism is guru yoga and guru devotion, plus the higher practices require initiations and empowerments. having a living realized master explain these things to you is really incredible and invaluable - something special seems to happen.

as for books, i don't really know of any that really give an overview of tibetan buddhism hmmm... i really suggest going to a center for that if you can. the higher tantric teachings are restricted anyways, so you can't just buy a book about it - you have to receive initiation and oral transmission of the texts.

if you have any specific questions though, feel free to PM me :sun:
