some say love comes from the spiritual connection of two souls.

i know for a fact, this is false. denny meets jenny, denny likes jenny, jenny likes denny. denny starts to love jenny, and think the world of her. he is convinced that she is his soulmate. he later finds out, jenny doesn't love him, nor has she EVER loved him. no spiritual connection was made, although denny felt the profound effects of love.

is love something more than chemicals being released in your brain? is there an inner beauty to it that warrents such amazing feelings? the chemical composition of love has been mapped and it comes in a nice package of 3 chemicals. not special in their own right, but they lead to some intense, pleasurable feelings. one may argue that love between two people is a special sacred bond, but i ask this.....

if the chemicals in your brain stopped releasing that feeling of "love" when you are with your significant other, would you still, on the basis that love is something "more" than just chemicals, be with that person your entire life, and never again, feel the effects of love?

Love is emotion, emotion is motion.

In other words love is a special type of energy / current running through your brain. No need for 2 people to connect in any specific way.

If the love was really strong and special, it will leave an imprint. That way, no chemicals will have to be released in the futre when you think of that person.

yeah.. everything we do and think and feel is chemicals and substance

least thats my take on it.

At the time it all seems "real" enough(being "in love") but in retrospect it was all just a sick obsession for me. i think the book "Love" by Stendhal explores the phenomenon in glorious detail....once the high is gone(be it chemically induced or whatever) forget it.....i'm just :smile:  all my relationships disolved B4 it got to that point.....i couldn't imagine spending any time, let alone my life, with another being after that magic feeling subsides....

This is not love. This is infatuation. And yes, this type of "love" is simply body chemicals. True love is not in any way connected to desire, especially of a physical nature. Love is a connection made on a spiritual level through immense rapport. I would guess about only 1 in every 1,000,000 people ever experience true love at any point in their life. Probably less. I experienced it once, but it was only in a dream. Even so it was the most profound thing I've ever felt in my life.

This is pure opinion not backed up by facts, so feel free to shoot me down if you like, but I'm pretty sure a lot more that 1 in 1,000,000 people experience true love. There are 60,000,000 people in Britain. are you saying that only 60 people in this country know true love? I'm sorry but that can't be true. And if it is, what's the point in living?

I LOVE YOU ALL, unconditionally, and I LOVE this existence, this world, and everyone, and everything in it!
Is this true LOVE? I don't know.
But I'm not expecting anything in return, I've already been given a pretty fair share of love, luck, hapiness, energy, positive-negative-experience/emotions, and I cherish them all. Everything that doesn't kill you makes you stronger!

All this talk about love gets me thinking. What the hell is "real?" And what is this "just chemicals" drivvle I keep hearing? Everything can be classified as something, be it chemicals, compounds, substrates, school bus stops or little Japanese boys. But by naming the cause is the mystery demystified? If anything, there is more awe. These feelings one gets are an integral part of the human experience. They are beautiful and wonderful, and no matter how simple they may seem, they are infinitely vast in conotations....

When you stare at a girl, and have trouble talking to her, and then go out with her, and can't stand ANY guys talking to her, THAT is infatuation.
