if the chemicals in your brain stopped releasing that feeling of "love" when you are with your significant other, would you still, on the basis that love is something "more" than just chemicals, be with that person your entire life, and never again, feel the effects of love?

Well in my opinion 'feelings' come from the heart...so yes I think you would still feel the effects of love, you just might not be able to comprehend what it is that your feeling and why your feeling it.

why worry about understanding someone when your getting those amazing feelings of love?

Understanding someone is one of the biggest parts of being in love. If you can't understand them then what are you doing there in the first place?
