I remember seeing our own goverment lie during the gulf war a few times, and I got it on tape. During that time (The Gulf War) I was unemployed, and all I really did was watch the gulf war unfold on tv and get high it ... I still have a large box (a CRATE FULL) of news footage (most with commercials edited out) from diferent networks on VHS tape.... There were many times that the media would be broadcasting an event unfolding while our goverment was holding press conferences...Sometimes what the media showed via there live video feeds and what our goverment was saying totaly conflicted. About the best example I can remember was a spit screen shot on CNN that showed a large crator impact from a supposed "scud" missle that hit some apartments/homes... CNN had a close up shot of a missile fragment in the crator that said "USA" on it.. On the other side of the screen was our goverment holding a press conference saying that it was Iraq's bomb!...

Like.. gosh, the media AND goverments lie... (I never would of thunked it either)

Not to be rude, but may I ask to what "baby hitler" has to do with this thread?

Quote:

"But as U.N. weapons inspectors prepare to return to Iraq for the first time since Saddam kicked them out in 1998, the U.S. faces a delicate balancing act: transforming the international consensus for disarmament into a consensus for war." --Randall Pinkston, CBS Evening News (11/9/02).

The international consensus for disarmament doesn't mean shit if no one enforces it. Go UN!

Quote:

"The last weapons inspectors were pulled out of Iraq nearly four years ago. Baghdad charged that there were spies on the team, and the United States complained that Iraq was using the accusation as an excuse to obstruct the inspectors. After the team withdrew, the U.S. and Britain waged a four-day bombing campaign." --L.A. Times (11/19/02)

Spying is a very broad term. We were there to inspect Iraq's weaponary to see if they were in compliance with the UN. This in itself could be considered spying, and probably was.

Quote:

"Many [in Iraq], of course, are bitter over the 12-year-long U.S.-supported embargo, which Baghdad claims has led to thousands of infants and elderly people dying from preventable diseases." --Time (11/25/02)

This quote attempts to blaim the US alone for the embargo, when in fact, the UN as a whole supports it.

Quote:

"The Pentagon also points out, the Bush administration also points out very, very strongly, that the Iraqi regime itself is to blame for all of these problems. If they simply complied with U.N. Security Council resolutions and disarm, there would be no sanctions, there would be no problem getting medical supplies, doctor, pediatricians, to all parts of Iraq."
--Wolf Blitzer, CNN (11/7/02)

This is true.

There is no doubt that the media twists its stories. However, the majority of the American media twists them in a way to make Bush and any other Republican look bad. The mainstream American media is not as outwardly liberal as some other sources, which leads people like you to believe that it is biased against "the truth" when in fact, it is merely not biased enough for your liking.

This animated movie highlights some of the stories and media images that have been used to support an attack on iraq but which come from other sources. Its a bit corny but its informative...

I find it kind of ironic that the Gulf War was the only major American police action where more of our casualties came from friendly fire rather than enemy action.

I fail to see the irony in this. Could you elaborate?

RE: "American police action"

I just caught this.... I thought it was a war?

As far as the irony... I can see where the guy is comming from. Pretty weird to think that we killed more of are own solders than the enemy did (if this is the case, I never knew this before).
