if i were drafted i would jump at the chance to get to shoot at an ugly arab. i'd kill me some woman and children, but i wouldnt count them as kills, that wouldnt be fair. Woman would be 1/2 of a kill and children would be 1/3 of a kill.

Okay, if I was drafted, it really depends on what I was drafted for. I'd probably go to war. Unless, of course, I was drafted to carry out war upon my own city or something ridiculous.
Calling someone a coward for not wanting to be forced to 1) Risk their own life and 2) possibly kill other human beings is just stupid.
I for one would rather fight the authorities to the death than allow myself to be drafted, forced to leave my country, or face imprisonment. Am I, therefor a coward? Or does that make me a terrorist? Or an outlaw?

What gifts has the US given its citizens?? ..dont think I was there on that day or something....Did I as a citizen have ANY say in ANY of the conflicts our government involves us in? NO Hell,we(citizens) didnt even really elect our president.....more or less he was chosen for us.......

So I for one dont know for sure if i would go if drafted......if it looked like a hopeless slaughter then FUCK NO i wouldnt go......Only time will tell i suppose......As for right now I feel very sorry for what has happened thus far....but still Im torn between deciding if this is my fight or not.....if war started all this i doubt it will end it.............ah well just my two or three maybe even four cents worth for today.........

I don't know how I'd feel if I were drafted. Probably pretty shitty.
I do, however, think it's fucked that only 18 year old males have to sign up. I don't consider myself mysogynistic, but why don't chicks have to sign up? Fuck chivalry, they can take a bullet just as effectively as any man.
Serious question, though, as there would be many types of roles to fill in a true draft situation.
Just bring up that issue if you ever want to get booted out of office!

First off there will be no draft. We have more than enough military troops to take out third world country. Second if there was (lets say) another world war it would be fought behind computers, subs, and nukes. There's one fight they would use a draft for. China. 1/3 of the worlds population alone, they have millions of troops compared to our few hundred thousand. It's an honor for them to die, they will not quit. We're fucked!! That why they say "this will not be another vietnam"

i, for one, am going to college and signing up for the ROTC navy nursing corps. of course, i need to finish, and havent even started college yet. but yeah, i guess since i wouldn't be a grunt, i would willingly go to war. but, innvertigo, calling someone a coward for not potentially dying for something they dont believe in, while at the same time killing people they have nothing against, i just dont see any logic behind that, wouldnt they be cowards if they went to the war and fought cause someone told them to? (ever read "the things they carried"? heh, that explains what im talking about much better)

If we have a ground war and need more ground troops than we'de have volunteers I would support a conscription to service.
Folks, this may be a long hard fight to capture and occupy Afghanistan and we may take considerable casulties. But if it's necessary to make our mainland safe then I support it.

I'm not condoning the attacks in any way. I'm simply pointing out that whoever carried out the attacks had a reason to do so, no matter how twisted and mislead.
America is not an angel. Your foreign policies contribute to a lot of suffering for a lot of people and (Assuming it was middle eastern terrorists) they want revenge for this, just as you want revenge for the WTC attack.
To you it may be black and white - the terrorists are the enemy, but to the terrorists it's also black and white - You are the enemy. Look at the bigger picture, and you'll see it's a very complex situation.

You're making so much more of my words than is intended. I'm not condoning the attacks, I'm not blaming the american people in the slightest and I'm not justifying the terrorists.
There ARE reasons why this attack happened. Whoever attacked America obviously believed very strongly that they were doing the right thing. If you are ever going to overcome the terrorists, you need to find out why they think like this and what their problems with America are.
By reducing to situation to 'black and white' or 'good vs evil', you are preventing any real progress by adopting a similar mindset to the terrorists. This is something that our country has learned through many years of continuous terrorist attack.

my great grandfather was a captain in the polish underground during WW2, my grandfather was a jewish boy running with his mother from nazis after seeing german soldiers kill his sister and father, my father served 6 years in the army and excelled in officer school, ive known a few vietnam veterans (they are all fucked up really bad), and i myself am entering NROTC (if i dont get drafted, heh). ive read a bunch of books on war, written by veterans, and from what ive learned, panama and the persian gulf dont even come close to a real war. fighting as an american in those wars is about as dangerous as getting in barfights every week.

It's still pretty warm. It was nice clear skies today. A bit windy on campus. Cool enough for shorts. Gets pretty cold at nights though.

Why are you going into NROTC? It was funny when we'd get a ROTC guy in our company and he'd try to give orders to senior NCO's (I was an E-6). We would just laugh at him and put him in the back of the hum-v and tell him to be quiet and pay attention. Nice guy though i kind of liked him. Your families history sounds pretty interesting i haven't studied my family past the 1st WW

From what you learned, you were mistaken. The persian gulf set the stage for how future wars will be fought. There is no honor in fighting hand-to-hand when you don't have to. But i cannot compare it with the Vietnam war..that was a different war.

well, yes it was a "futuristic war", but i didnt mention that almost 50% of american casualties were from friendly fire.. it was just a massacre. but hell, this will be most likely a massacre to, no one in there right mind will help them out like the USSR helped the viet cong.

well, the navy has a serious shortage of capable medics (or nurses, heh) and i think i should help out. also, it looks good on your resume. as for my families history, thanks, i do think its quite interesting also.

well, the wars you mentioned the soldiers werent in too much danger (of course they could have died much easier then any civilian, but still hardly any americans died). if you arent really afraid for your life, and dont want to fight, why would you?

yeah, if you dont tell them about your drug history they cant do anything about it. but they wont take you if you have a prescription for ritalin or prozac. its not very hard to get into the army when they need people... im sure if things get bad enough they would start drafting homeless crackheads, heh.

Oh my God, who is this idiot that thinks the military won't take you if you've ever dropped acid? I used to eat that shit like candy and I got into the military just fine. In fact a few MOS' encourage a little shady background. Now it is true that if you have any kind of drug waiver you don't have a chance in hell of becoming a pilot but that's about it.

I have a question about how they would pick people for drafting. I will go and fight, since I live here in America, if I am drafted, but if a person has a psychological profile that isn't "pretty", will the Army still draft you (me)? Psychosis, ADD, OCD, impulsive some other shit.

you won't be drafted. we have plenty of people in the reserves and the national guard. I wouldn't worry about it. But if they did start the draft they would first take those that are on inactive reserves first with prior military experience (people are really in the military for 8 years but if you serve 4 years you are 4 years active 4 years innactive) then they would start looking at the 18 year olds. take a deeeeeeep breath smoke a joint and relax.
