Hey are was kinda wondering the same. I have a tomato, that's ment to be pretty small, about a foot or two. But i'm doing this organic hydroponic experiment and the pot is very small that it's in so it will eventually get rootbound. Will the plant still produce fruit if it gets rootbound?

im gonna do reading becuase im sure there are ways to keep veggies small.

first things to come to mind is smaller containers.
use less fertz.
make sure there is enough light so it does not want to stretch for it.
and ofcourse you could probably tie down and/or cut some stems.

and scrog may work also...:bonghit:

For tomatoes training, removing laterals and topping will keep them small. Or you could run the vines horizontally if you are pressed for headroom. For chillies you can train by clipping to make it into a small shrub or you can bonsai like in those links. They look pretty cool.

So will a rootbound plant still produce fruits? Even if there the size of cherry tomatos, that would be cool. But if not I need to know before it's roots develop to well, and I damage them during transplant.

Damn. Well I hope I can get an answer from someone today not in few months. That's what I'm doing now.
I got it set up organic hydroponic-
mesh pot halfway filled with hydroton, a rockwool layer, then organic soil. The roots top one third will feed off nutrients in soil and bottom two thirds will be water suckers.

Yeah they will produce fruit just not many, maybe a handful or so. I planted 3 tomato seedlings in a 10 litre pot as I had run out of room. They were severely stunted but still managed to produce 15 or so tomatoes.

Why most likely root rot? Why would container size give a plant root rot?
