Tomatoes and peppers are pretty much out for indoors unless you have a very serious grow set up. They both grow best at temps over 85F, need at least 10-12 hours full sun, and need at least at least 5gal. pots to grow in. Any of your basic kitchen herbs can be grown in a window box. Oregano, basil, parsley, cilantro, thyme, and rosemary all grow well indoors. Most ferns and shade plants also do well. go to www.gardenweb.com and check out the indoor plant forum. All of your questions can be answered there. Most ethnobotanical plants need to grow outside due to heat and light needs. MJ and poppies are two exceptions, and I keep my cacti inside during the winter, those are the only ones I can think of off hand.

Try Cat Nip IT is a fast grower and your cats will love it. If you don't have cats give it to people who do.

Salvia divinorum, san pedro cactus, heimia salicifolia, calea zacatechichi, hemp... You can grow hot chili peppers indoor, but the aroma will be barely noticeable. you'll need a MH lamp and an HPS lamp for both vegetative and flowering/fruiting phase.

With a single 1,000 watt sun-argo lamp from a reputable grow light manufacturer , you can grow cherrry tomatoes and dwarf size peppers along with all hot peppers.. Like the other person mentioned to grow full size tomatoes and peppers is not suited for indoor growing...The sun-argo bulbs do not last the length a HPS or Metal Halide would , but for edibles it would work great.. You also say not just ethnobotanical..Try Duban-poison..Early girl..any skunk or haze variety and most indica-sativa mixes are fine, Full sativa breeds will work, but yield will be low and grow times a few weeks longer...
-------------------- Going crazy will drive you mad, but once you get there the rest is easy....All spores are not created equal!!!!!!!!!!! Sporeworks, Hawkseye, PF, they are completely viable with very strong genetics.
