Hey guys, the wiggly wigglers site has a 3£ recommendation scheme.

You can do it up to 4 times a months. Thats 12£ a month. If you did this for two months, you could get 24 blocks of coir. you would just have to pay the 4.25 shipping. Now I just need some addresses :tongue2:

Nice work as ever, Base. I have a few addresses I can use, never tried coir as I have ample supplies of manure and peat moss. Still got about 90ltr of peat moss, that bag is epic. But coir keeps catching my eye and this seems a cheap way of doing it.

Woo hoo. Thanks.

I wonder if that reconstituted coir is any good? It would be a hell of a lot easier to make half batches if the normal stuff wasn't in bricks. Have you ever tried getting one of those cut in half?

Yeah I still got 70L of manure from last summer. I got a massive bag of peat too. I made some 50/50 casing but have yet to use it. I used it on a pan tray but in contaminated

I'm interested in coir too for its contam resistance and easy of pasteurisation.

I was wondering, if any of you guys minded if I used your addresses? Cuase at the end of the day even if we come up with some addresses, out addresses could still be used if you haven't signed up with them yet.

I also am interested in the 5kg bales thats fertile fiber sells. I've seen them on ebay as well. you could always use a hack saw on it and weight it out and scale it to damions tek. I've done that with manure and it worked fine before.

I'm assuming a hack saw will cut one up  I'm sure I've read someone some where has been doing that with the massive bales with success....

I have a 100 litre sack of verm sitting here with no chance of me using it all! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vermiculite-Micafil-100ltr-bag-/170579397511?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Garden_Plants_Fertiliser_CV&hash=item27b7530b87
There are some pretty big chunks in it though about 1cm3. Is this too big for bulk substrate? I plan to process and screen it anyway for casings.
I dont know what the postage would be but would send an amount to anyone at cost or preferably swap it for supplies?

Coir bricks are easy to cut, I use a normal wood saw. They cut nice and clean.

I just noticed that the free sample is one tiny ass piece  of coir, not worth the effort IMO.

Very good prices on that site though if you buy in bulk but if you only want one or two to try out  you can get it at pets at home for £2.69

I know there have been lots of links for jars, but these jars are pretty good for BRF cakes.

Had an email back from Fiera regarding the gaskets for Big Boy PC's. They carry all the bits though don't list them on the website.

HC B8-06002      Hawkins Spare Parts Gasket for 18-22 Litre          £7.66 per piece

@cookie yeah its only enough for a small tray, I figure the freebie will make 2-3L of coir. Its enough to give it a go if you've never used it I guess.  Also, I went the grow shop and they had coir for £1.30. Its in the next town though so a pain in the ass to get unless I'm already going there. Still cheaper until you order a big order online.

@plummy - sweet jars. If money is an issue for you though you can get glasses for about 50p each locally I bet. I preffer glasses these days anyways.

:pm: me. I could maybe post you some. Other wise go the coir route.

Thanks for that man. They just got back to me too. I asked if they're posted prices included VAT. Cause if they did then they are cheaper than chefline. They just got back to me and said that there VAT prices are included. And even with that VAT increase the 14L is only 70£ including delivery. Thats 4.30 cheaper than buying it from chefline through ebay. Thats nearly enough to cover a gasket too. Sweeeet :coaster:

I've seen 1L jars in wilkinsons for £2.50 too. If you need more than a few though your best off ordering a dozen online. Last time we checked they was right around 20 quid for a dozen delivered to your door. Thats the next think on my list after this pc I think.

Pic on their site says it will make half a litre.

I asked in my local hydro shop about coir blocks, they looked at me as if I was crazy they had no idea what I was on about.

I might just order 20 bricks @88p each thats a total bargin. I'm sure thats cheaper than when I looked on there this morning.

Hmm I didn't read that. I read that It weights 200g. A standard block is 650g. A standard block should make 7-8L.

Yeah When I have the cash I might get a stack of blocks. Those blacks are a little on the large size too if its true that they make 10-11L.

Can anyone recommend a good place to buy some decent cheap 1/2 pint wide mouth jars? Cheers.

Do you have your heart set on jars? Lots of us have been using glasses that are similar size and just using foil as the lid for ages. I prefer the glasses tbh.

Just weighed 2 of the "Exo Terra" blocks I get at the pet store.  They say 8qt/8.8L but one weighed 444g and the other weighed 544g with the wrapping on.  Quite a wide variance!  I guess there isn't really a standard size
