Either way, the value of such lists is simply to bring forth the idea that enlightenment IS possible

Making a list doesn't tell us anything about possibilities.

Enlightenment is what someone claims when they want to sell books and gather devotees.

The End.

Immanuel Kant described it as follows:

Quote:
Enlightenment is man's release from his self-incurred tutelage. Tutelage is the incapacity to use one's own understanding without the guidance of another. Such tutelage is self-imposed if its cause is not lack of intelligence, but rather a lack of determination and courage to use one's intelligence without being guided by another.

But i think enlightenment is the ability to make life easier. For me it is the expression of understanding reality and acting according to it so that life's burden becomes lighter.

it must be

if it was a new burden it would be unbearable!
imagine carrying the weight of the universe on the shoulders of a 'person'

it is the death of the person & the universe shining through an empty shell

That's right. Putting it to the test does. You didn't misquote me, but you did successfully skew the meaning.

The fact that people take advantage of each other does not preclude other possibilities. Basic logic.

"The end" - huff puff

why there is reality and patterned, law-like consistency at all, rather than noise or non-reality is not a question physics answers. It's a question physics presupposes an answer to in order to provide other answers.

Seeing as how no one pointed to the slightest evidence of this continuous higher state, why choose to believe in it?

You won't have to worry about the nasty spiritual people when your children kill you.

Actually, I have only received three threats of physical harm in my tenure here - all from self-proclaimed spiritual people.

Dig?

He was very well respected internationally and hand-picked by Paramahansa Yogananda, quite possibly the most read and respected yogi of the modern age.

Can you think of someone with better credentials?

Dont get me started on Paramahansa Yogananda!

He sat with Ramana Maharshi (who WAS the real deal) then came to the west for one thing, to MAKE MONEY off spirituality, when asked why he didnt teach Ramanas Self-Inquiry, which is true Yoga (the last 4 limbs of yoga) he'd get pissed off & tell people 'if you want, go to Ramana in India yourself'

The fact is, like Fraggin mentioned in a previous post, you can't make much money of the last 4 limbs of Yoga, so most 'gurus' only teach the first 4, the last ones are the only ones that actually lead to enlightenment...

There are real Gurus & there are false ones, he may have been well respected but he was about making cash not enlightening people! Lots of people knowing who you are does not amount to respect imo
