Anyone here practice Zen?
    #1013540 - 11/01/02 04:36 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

I'm interested in practicing Zen, and possibly becomming buddhist.

At 14 years old, I had my first acid trip. My second. Then my third. The third one is the one that changed my life around. It metaphorically opened my eyes to a reality I had previously ignored since my young years of 1-3. I once again found the magic in life, and for 10 hours me and my good friend questioned each other and learned more and more and the world. It was a magical night, and I still remember it.
After that night, I continued to eat acid once a week, to bring inner wisdom and insight to myself from the world. I learned a lot, and eventually was inspired to write a journal, which I continue to write today. It is now 23 pages filled with beliefs, insight, opinion, and ideas.

Two years later, at 16, I realize there are other ways of achieving what psychedelics have given me. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy lsd very much, but I am looking for a route that I can practice daily, to keep my mind sharp. I want something to practice daily, to work on, and it seems Zen would be much for me.

I am not religious, but I consider myself very spiritual.

I'm just curious if anyone can point me in the right direction, and help me get on the path. Books, writings, recommendations for institutions, links on the web, etc.

I agree with you! Right now I take appreciation for my nihilistic perspective.  I have just read a bit about buddhism, and it all seems to fit me so well.

Ive always wanted to just pick the parts of buddhism I like and stick with it, and learn about it, but that really isn't what buddhism is about. At all.

I have a lot of learning and decision making ahead of me, and I'm in no rush.

thanks for the link

It is a good sign that you are beginning to look other places besides drugs for the knowledge you seek.

The advice I will give you, is if your interested in that stuff like me. You should definately check out www.deoxy.org, and read. Read lots, there is lots of great information, but it takes some time to find it all. There are a lot of good articles, and information. You can practice zen, and consiousness expansion within your own home. There is also some great technology that is improving, like bio feedback, and brain machines, which can help quicken the effectiveness of meditation.

Zazen meditation has been the most positive influence on my life, next to my long time girlfriend, ever.

I recommend that to anyone.

Thanks for the nice words!

I've always hated myself for being so different and having a mind that ceases to stop. I used to be a huge conspiracy theorist, during my rebellious period. I thought I was crazy, insane, or just mentally ill.

I realize now it was a gift. To see these differently then other people at such an early age, and to keep this sight. Now I can quiet my mind through meditation, and I'm a LOT less agressive then I was when I was say 14-15, so I don't worry about crazy government theories at all anymore.

I'm definately on a learning path in life, and whenever I want something, I make sure I work hard enough to get it.

When I felt the public school systems were more detrimental them beneficial, I went ahead and dropped out. Now I do homeschooling, which is a LOT better. I still get the interaction I need as well. Luckily I have an understanding(crazy too, seriously, but thats another story) mother.

Sorry, didn't mean to give a life story!
