Re: Zen Meditation [Re: Seuss]

Some of the insights I have when I trip fade away, but I don't hesistate to tell you the most important insights stay. From what I know about Zen, its purpose is to take you beyond the visible, towards the core of existance. That is largely what hallucinogenics do, they force you into a contemplative mood.

Then it's not a shortcut, is it?

I know a man who has been a Zen monk for the last 15 years, and have talked to him on numerous occasions about psychedelics and buddhism. His basic view is that the spiritual journey is like a climb up a mountain. Drop a tab, or eat some boomers - and BLAM! you are on the top of the mountain, basking in the beauty of one-ness with existence. But 6 hours later, you are right back where you started. So he believes that psychedelics can be used to supplement the spiritual path, but will never serve as any "permanent" fix. Instead, if they are used to help nudge you along the path, they can be very helpful... but you must be sure that the instant "one-ness" that you find doesn't overtake the overall spiritual quest. This is just one monk's opinion, though...

that makse perfect scence, there a tool for enlightenment just as fasting, yoga, meditation and the like. The important thing is to carry on with what you learn on these journeys and put it to evr day practice
