Icelander's enlightenment.
    #9976534 -

What I call enlightenment is becoming aware that you are pretty much completely programmed in your actions and responses. Then accepting it and getting on with living the most fun and humorous life you can. Or something like that.

Does this have anything to do with disengaging identification with your mind?

And what is fun to you?

In your hypothesis, its either all or nothing.  You cannot be "pretty much" programmed.  You either are or are not.

In that case you cannot experience fun and humor unless you are programmed for it.

If it works for you, all the power to ya!

This sounds like switching to the "meta-programmer" circuit in Timothy Leary's "8 circuit" model. Do you go by those descriptions at all?

For me it's like the opposite. One's ability to get the 'right' glimpse on the moment to catch the chance to make one's outacting choice by decision and intention. I don't consider my choices to be programmed. I consider them 'quite' free, besides those natural urges to only be suspended, and worked with, not to have them been overcome by irgnorance, to not be overcomed by them

What makes you think we are pretty much programmed?  I think we can be, but I want to hear your view.  I think one of the best evidences of programming is habituation.  People are creatures of habit and old habits are hard to break.

To me, enlightenment would be the things you mention.  But stopping trying to manipulate your experience by changing your programming in turn will loosen the programming's grip.  You begin to act more spontaneously.  Eventually you stop reacting all-together, and then you only act deliberately.  Then you are "free."  That's the idea anyway.  I know it works up to the "you act more spontaneously."  I now NOTICE when I react.  Instead of just reacting.  I know how the process works because of stopping my mind from wandering in meditation.  Eventually you catch it sooner and sooner and then you don't have to worry about it all.  You just don't wander.  Same deal here.  Eventually we'll stop reacting.

Holla.

I agree that enlightenment involves humour

I dont know anyone who 'isnt into' fun and humour. Some people just dont have as much energy as others. Being 'in' on cosmic jokes is part of being a healthy unit

or something like that

I don't know how to disengage identification with my mind. Seems difficult or impossible.

Fun is what ever I enjoy.

There could be aspects of the self that are not programmed yet. Why not?

Of course I'm programmed for fun and humor as that seems part of our basic programming for survival and other things.

Easy might be the best way and maybe the only way. However I've doe a lot of reprogramming but it's still a program when you are done. I never said one should not try to change if they prefer that.

You answered your question. Programs are created by repeating patterns or creating habits. There are countless examples of this in human culture. Most do not see their patterns and so believe them to be solid truths. This IMO is not very awake. If you think a pattern or habit is "truth" why would you try to alter it, searching for something more workable?
