Just room temperature, and it fluctuates a bit but between 19-23 c

Sorry, not a scientist, didn’t understand your lingo 😝 I’m really trying though!

I'm sorry, my language skills are mainly from "google translate"

I think I will also try to cultivate morels, but because of my girlfriend, we have a minimum temperature of about 22,5°C rather warmer :frown: ... yesterday when I undressed all long clothes at 22,2°C, she put on a fleece jacket ... so I think my morels should also like warm temperatures :-)

Thanks rams, they do look like popcorn it's pretty awesome, so I just made a bottom layer of wbs about 20% of the jar volume, then I cut circles of aluminum foil the diameter of the jar, and poked holes in it, placed that in the jar on top of the wbs and then just scoped straight potting soil in on top about the other 80% of the jar, I made this ratio because I believe the key is to starve the mycelium, make them fight to store it, less food = more storage, I plan to spawn them into a tray of sand/clay/Verm/coir but low on the coir because it's organic and can be used as food, in the bottom of this I'm going to poke holes I want the bottom layer to be Verm so it acts as a filter for contamination, then I'm going to set that tray on top of a larger second tray filled with raw hydrated rye and hwfp, cased with a thin layer of Verm and coir to act as a contam barrier, this will promote the sclerotia in the first tray to go back into its asexual state and send out runner into the second tray in search of reestablishing a primary food source, after the two trays are connected by mycelium it will continue to feed the sterile grain free sclerotia in the first tray allowing them to in large after these stones have grown for another month or 2 I will separate the trays and chill the sclerotia tray in the fridge for 2 weeks, after that I will put it into fruiting conditions, continuous fresh air exchange, cold air, around 65, and humidity, I want to allow the substrate to dry out a bit , this is just my out line right. Now but will write a proper follow up if it's a success

I incubated at 65F they prefer it cool, they can withstand 85f during incubation but they favor cooler temps, they will not fruit above 75-80 as far as I know, yes soil temps should be 55-65f for fruiting, after they pin I believe you can fluctuate up to 70-75, just think about how they would be in nature

Sunnydaze I don't know about smelling musty like cat piss but I'll let you know when I spawn them, and yes they are super whispy like pan cyanescens it's super fine long runners they elongate fast to seek food, it seems to send just a few thin runners and doesn't start branching until it gets close to the food, it ran through 3-4 inches of soil in only a week with no food , its aggressive just thin, ill up load a few pics

Also I don't know how relavent this is but I read sclerotia store lipids so using grains that have a high fat content might help stone production like soybeans/hulls, cotton seeds/hulls and hempseed

Doing some research on lipid storage on pseudo sclerotia and morels, I'm thinking about doing a spawn recipe with soybeans and brewers yeast, the yeast contains all the b vitamins like b1 thiamine and b9 folic acid for the absorption of fats and carbohydrates, and the soybeans containing 5 forms of fats and the highest fat content for commercially available grains, also I believe constant air movement is critical for premordia it says 900 ppm of co2 and 6-8 air exchanges per hour!

My last bags I added a bit of yeast, gelatin (for proteins) wanted to add trace elements and calamino acids but wasn’t sure what form to put them in.  I also added some verm to the soil which possibly could be part of the trace elements.

Thanks for all that info!  I’m pretty excited to see how you do.  I haven’t had much time to research but am giving it a go anyway, give it a better effort next winter I hope.

Very cool Xerbia, it's encouraging.

Here's an update on one of the projects I did last fall. As I mentioned before I made 4 different substrates in an attempt to fruit them indoors. 3 of them contaminated so I put them outside with little hopes they would do something because of the contamination. As they slowly grew outside over the fall, I noticed a white layer of mycelium on top, which I thought was trichoderma but also looked similar to the "powdery mildew"\conidia layer mentioned in the Chinese papers. I didn't expect them to survive at all because they were left completely exposed to the elements, above ground under a spruce tree and would have likely completely froze over, as our winters can get down to -30c and was in fact -30c to -40c for almost a month straight. Looking at it today I noticed the surface of a couple of them had a lot of scelortia formation on the top. This really goes to show the robustness and ability for this mushroom to survive the elements.

Here is two pictures of one substrate that shows the most surface scelrotia. I plan to case these with a 50/50 verm/peat layer tomorrow in a hope for them to fruit.

Pretty neat Digital, good luck!

I made a morel lc.  Never did lc with agar wedge before, just used Josee poke.  Was interesting it grew so much on top.  Here is the morel lc

Thanks, I'm just not sure if I should bother pasteurizing the casing layer because it's going outside. I will probably do a lazy pasteurizing in the oven.

That liquid culture looks interesting, I've noticed that if they aren't agitated regularly the mycelium will tend to clump and float to the top. Probably in search of air and because its less dense then water.

Looks just like some guy in EU that grows morels indoors in tubs successfully, the surface mycelium and sclerotia.
This looks very good!!! Keep us updated!

That guy is not able to grow morels indoors.  He's keeping his tubs outdoors during fall, winter and spring
and when the cultures start to fruit in spring he takes the tubs indoors claiming that he is able to cultivate morels indoors, but in fact
it's an ordinary  morel bed  kept in a tub outdoors from fall to spring.  Not an indoor culture at all. Bogus!

Will do, good or bad. I highly doubt anything will come of it and I'm expecting the casing to contaminate. I'll check on them at the end of this week for growth.

so the spawn seems ready ..

this is the one with that large sclerotia, which has now become yellow

I also inoculated 2 more bags of composted sawdust with the morel mycelium on 5th of this month, which looks fine too

i am planning to make 2 tubs of bulk substrate for indoor grow.

Do you have any idea why the sclerotia grew so big in that one bag?
