Beer as good for mushrooms as it is man?

could i use a 50/50 mixture of beer/water in pf style jars? would this make me more suseptable to contams? would there be any benifits other than more nutes?

I think that you would be less at risk of contams. Where did you read that beer is good for shrooms?

Now if someone could figure out a Tek that uses beer and pretzels ...we'ed be in business. :laugh:

Just kidding, actually, beer is pre-pasturized so it would wouldnt lead to more contams(by-itself), the only problem I see is changing the PH of the cake.  Wouldnt beer make the cake more acid and therefore more likely to be contaminated? :tongue: only thing to do is check the PH of your beer and make sure it isnt too acid... maybe try one of those ph testing strips :confused:

thanks for the replys. if anyone wants an update on this i am gonna try it on my next batch of jars. I also have another question. would drilling a hole and inserting a straw and filling the straw w/ beer work to add nutes to the cake?

Realize though that beer has ALCOHOL in it......something not good for fungus'. If i were set on using beer i would boil it for about 30 minutes before hand in order to burn off some alcohol.. then use it. it might actually work.

The straw idea would work if you sterilize your beer like that other guy said, boiling for 30 min.
