I wasn't trying to increase potency, although it's nice to find out that it will even if its on a miniscule scale. What i was trying to do provide the mycelium with more nutrients. With the added nutrients I hope to get larger mushrooms as well as more flushes. Judging by the number of times this post has been viewed I am assuming everyone wants updates. The experiment begins tonight.

PS. I know if I use millet or rye I can get better results but I don't have access to a pressure cooker unfortunatly :frown:

i was thinking about poo and straw but I live in a small apartment and I am concerned about smell. So if someone can tell me it doesn't smell much then I will definatly try this too. I was gonna wait to use poo + straw til I bought a house in about 9 months.

Also As of right now I am boiling the beer. After it has boiled I will be soaking Whole Brown Rice in it overnight.

9-13
Jars are being steralized, and I am about to make (2) 12 cc syringes with a Z-strain (golden teacher) print. I will be updating this post again when mycelium begins to form. Or whenever anyone has questions on the procedure. Further more I might be trying a coco coir casing. anyone use coco coir with good results? I would like to see a few pictures before I try it. I also might do a Poo + hay tek

9-16 no signs of growth yet. the spores were left in a hot mailbox for 2 days while I was out of town. If I don't see growth on any of the jars 7 days from today I will use South Americans in place of the Z-strain.

Update 9-20

Substantial growth on 11/12 jars. I had previously thought the spores died in the mail, but to my suprise the mycelium is tearing up the substrate. I'll keep you updated. mayb even some pics.

Hey what kind of beer did you use, and are you going to try different kinds of beers to see if there's a growth difference? I'm talking between stuff like corona and amber bock, and a light beer and regular beer.

Stout mike make a nice dark cake. It'd be fun to watch it get colonized.

I don't see the point in boiling it first... Just pour it into the mixture in place of the water right out of the bottle/can.  The CO2 and alcohol will be dispursed during sterilization. The carbonation will make a frothy substrate that will end up being airier. Hmmm...

I unfortunately wasnt able to follow the maths from aboth , but I figured , that you need a beer with more nutients. Isn?t there more "stuff" (things , but water that are contained in beer = Nutrients) in stronger beer with a higher alcohol level? If so try Scandinavien Strong Beer , cause that can have up to 12%. That should kick growth a lot.

As far as the smelliness of dung (horse, cow, etc). The only odors I came into contact w/ was acctually cooking the poo (not so bad). And finaly, after it comes out of the pillowcase (yikes!).
When cased, hopefully yer tupp will be near airtight for needing to bulid up RH. It is a little smelly when fanned, use a face mask if it bother you. And if a smell lingers, a little lysol will take care of it. I use %91, but I am anal about being clean =)

Oxymoron - Being analy clean w/ dung

Thats Tyramines, not tryptamines.
