I was wondering on a friends behalf. I have never drank while on a trip, but I wanted to know if it could bring down a trip or lessen it with alcohol. This particular friend was in a sense "drunk" when he ate about a quarter bag of shrooms. After he had waited for the trip for a few hours nothing happened so he continued to drink. He probably drank about a 24 pack and had some Vladamir after that, but I still couldn't understand why he wasn't feeling the shrooms at all.
The quarter bag was Psilocye cubensis, I'm not sure what happened or what caused the trip to fuk up, the only reasoning I would think would have been the alcohol, but since I personally have never taken shrooms while drinking, I thought I'd ask.

My friends always drink while tripping, I dont like it. I always hear thing such as "doing shrooms lets me take back a whole two-four no prob" or "I smoked an entire pack of cigarettes in one sitting."
Shrooms are sacred, we all know that. Dont disrespect them with alcohol.

Listen man,
I totally agree. Shrooms are awesome in the sense that when they are taken alone they can be such an enlightening tool that to mix shrooms and alcohol seems like a waste. I was trying to speak with my friend about his experience while drinking and shrooming, but he said it was almost a buzz kill, drinking and trippin' at the same time. I do appreciate the fair warning. I have never drank and ate shrooms together, but because of this thread I know better now. ThanX.

I certainly respect the puritan argument, but this cowboy can't fathom the idea of not drinking (and smoking) whilst trippin'. Whether it involves just hangin' out and sippin' on some brews, or going out dancing, rabble rousing, partying, mackin' on the ladiez, or what have you, the shroomie experience involves good friends, smoke, and booze. As some have already mentioned, the psilocybin seems to make one almost impervious to the effects of alcohol and hangover.
I dunno, I guess for me the two just go so well together...

I have consumed the occasional beer to calm jitters or speediness, but never to excess. My friend likes to consume everything at hand and usually ends up drooling on himself and not having a good time. Alcohol as a depressant and mushies to create excess stimuli in the brain for me has always been a bad mix. Just some personal experience

Using booze or smoking while tripping on shrooms is like using ketchup on a fine steak. Or using sandpaper as toilet paper.

Very very good example. I understand this view point more-so because I just agree. I smoke the occasional doobie to help calm nerves, but when it comes to drinking I just assume wait untill the next day, when the trip is done.

I guess we're all creatures of habit, and my trips are planned events--don't get to trip that often. I do them the same way each time.
Mushrooms for me can be slightly overwhelming in the beginning--so before I eat the shrooms I'll usually have about 3-5 beers; but once the shrooms have kicked in, I have no desire to drink anymore. The alcohol before the trip kicks in kinda calms me, readies me for the goodies to come.
I'm sure I would still enjoy the trip if I didn't drink beforehand, but I like a few before.
I think I read in the PF tek somewhere (or maybe in Erowid or elsewhere) that shrooms are so powerful that you could be snot-slingin' drunk, and once the shrooms kick in: YOU'RE SOBER.
Personally, all effects of the few beers I had are totally gone once the shrooms come into play.
If I was able to drink like a fish while trippin (which I'm not) I know that I wouldn't feel drunk once the trip begins. It would only serve to make the next day a truly miserable experience.
your mileage may vary, but very good thread, tho.

i subscribe to the theory that mushrooms open the 'brain valve' to the 'mind at large' (huxley). ive always believed that alcohol has the reverse effects. it brings you down to the basic survival instincts, namely procreation (or fucking). in my opinion alcohol is a dumbining (made that one up) drug. which is why i dont drink... anymore. but do what you like. ive never tripped while drinking so i dont have any theories on conflicting brain valve changes... something to think about i guess.

I found one of the easiest way to consume was making
a pitcher of blended margaritas with the shrooms. This makes
it much more platable for those who don't like the taste. But
the intention is not to get drunk, after the shrooms kick in I
never really have a desire for alcohol. To me it seems that
I'm just wasting booze cause it's effects are diminished. It's
like when I'm eating a really good steak, there's absolutely no
desire for any steak sauce - the experience is complete by
itself.
