Is there more scientific evidence supporting the Bible than Evolution?
    #8513498 -

How much scientific evidence is there to support the Bible's claims that the Earth is 6,000 years old and was created by a being not bound to the laws of time, space, matter, and energy(God)?

How much scientific evidence is there to support evolution?

Note that when referring to evolution, it starts with the Big Bang Theory and the idea that something came from nothing, and progresses to the theory of life forming on earth through billions of years.

Im pretty sure there is almost NO evidence supporting the bibles theory

BUT!!! Growing up in the bible belt the schools did teach it so it must be true right

Kind of like how people believe disproven science within textbooks nationwide, right?

science updates its conclusions and throws out old data as it becomes obsolete or disproven. a good science teacher would tell his or her class when information in the textbook is outdated. they wouldn't continue teaching it and then form some sort of revisionist science to justify their bullshit.

no.... no.... no.... no.... no... understand that when you ask "Is there more scientific evidence supporting the Bible or Evolution", you are really asking, "Is there more scientific evidence supporting the Bible or Science". Evolution is exactly what every other theory in science is, the best rational explanation we have for natural phenomena without crediting a higher power.

It IS science.

Science usually is but doesn't have to be limited to not crediting a higher power.

"The bible" doesn't suggest that the Earth is 6000 years old, and thus evolution probably doesn't present a versus situation when compared to biblical literature. Also, whatever the source of all things is, it follows that it's going to be greater than the universal laws that came as a result of it, encompassing them within itself. So those laws that came in tow would be bound to the impetus, not the impetus bound to its subsequent laws.

Something doesn't come from nothing, and there is a "before the big bang."

No, common misconception though. The 6000 year thing comes from a cut and paste job of adding up the listed lineages from Adam to Jesus in various texts, and is accepted mostly by fringe fundamentalists. This method ignores the part of the story where Adam and Eve live in this Garden of Eden without aging for an undisclosed amount of time, which, for all that's said, could be claimed to be trillions upon trillions of years. There is also the "God created the world in 6 days" thing, which is also not what is actually written there. The use of the Hebraic word "Yom," which can be used to signify any infinite amount of time, in the beginning of Genesis does not use the same structure that is always used everywhere else when meaning the word "day." So it's unknown what length of time is actually meant, but whatever it is, it isn't "day."

In answer to "Is there more scientific evidence supporting the Bible than Evolution?" There's actual proof. Go to a hotel, pick up the book and hold it in your hands. There, it's real!

You know what's not real though? Gideons. One day, when I'm in a hotel, I'm going to complain that there's no bible in my room, and I'm going to capture me a real live Gideon. They will divuldge their secrets and where to find their pot of gold,

But seriously, no proof of the Bible's claim. Definite proof of evolution.

I think many, if not all of you, seem a little too comfortable in your own shoes in this discussion.  There is actually a lot of evidence pointing towards a "young earth".

I'll provide an example from http://www.earthage.org/youngearthev/evidence_for_a_young_earth.htm
1.  Receding Moon:
The gravitational pull between the Earth and Moon causes the Earth’s oceans to have tides.  The tidal friction  between the Earth’s terrestrial surface and the water moving over it causes energy to be  added  to the Moon.  This  "results in a constant yearly increase in the distance between the Earth and Moon."1 This tidal friction also causes the Earth’s rotation to slow down, but  more importantly,  the energy added to the Moon causes it to recede from  the  Earth.1,2  The rate  of recession was measured at  four centimeters per year in 1981; 3  however, according to Physicist Donald B. DeYoung:

"One cannot extrapolate the present 4 cm/year separation rate back into history. It has that value today, but was more rapid in the past because of tidal effects.  In fact, the separation rate depends on the distance to the 6th power, a very strong dependence ... the rate ... was perhaps 20 m/year ‘long’ ago, and the average is 1.2 m/year. 1

Because of this, the Moon must be less than 750 million years old -- or 20% of the supposed 4.5 billion-year age of the Earth-Moon system.4
Note: Even though the maximum age obtained from this method is more than 10,000 years, it is nevertheless much younger than the alleged 4.5 billion year age for the Earth-Moon system proposed by evolutionists. Note also that nobody knows how the Moon got to be in its present orbit. All of the proposed theories as to where it came from have serious problems. It is a complete mystery — unless of course it was designed that way from the beginning.

I think many of, if not all of you, feel a little too comfortable in your own shoes on this subject.  There is actually a substantial amount of evidence pointing towards a "young earth" that you either ignore or aren't aware of.  I am a skeptic and as a skeptic you must weigh in ALL evidence...

I will provide an example of this evidence from http://www.earthage.org/youngearthev/evidence_for_a_young_earth.htm

3.  The Sun:
Measurements of the sun's diameter over the past several hundred years indicate that it is shrinking at the rate of five feet per hour. Assuming that this rate has been constant in the past we can conclude that the earth would have been so hot only one  million  years ago that no life could have survived.  And only 11,200,000 years ago the sun would have physically touched the earth. 9,10,11,12  Also, if the sun were indeed billions of years old,  then it does seem a bit odd for its magnetic field to have doubled in the past 100 years, but this is what the evidence suggests.  See also: Global Warming - Is the Sun to Blame? and The Young Faint Sun Paradox.

*sigh* Ignorance is so very sad. As the sun contracts so do the planet's orbits.

Sorry, my science is a little rusty, but regarding the moon thing: Isn't is supposed that the moon is a broken off chunk of earth from some fucking gigantic comet hitting it a long ass time ago?

Wouldn't it then make sense that the age of the moon would be considerably younger than the surrounding bodies?

And wouldn't the exponential change in movement reflect the process of the broken off piece settling into a natural orbit?

(Okay, that last one may be a stretch.)
