Re: New Shmoopy $25,000 challenge [Re: soulcircus]

An enlightened master could heal me with a miracle.

The purpose of the miracle is not a spectacle for what would that prove?

That mountains can be moved by faith?

Why see this if after you blink in astonishment, he walks away, and you are left with your old self again, with simply a memory of a "spectacular" event.

But what would make it any more spectacular then any other memory, if it has no healing effects on the mind?

Thus, an enlightened master would have to show me timelessness. And a miracle of healing would show me my true self, which IS timeless.

All one has to do is to prove to me that they can distinguish an Enlightened Master from a Wise Old Man.

Can I take part in this and win the $25,000?

It's really easy...I'm surprised no one has got it yet.

Open your mind and heart if you want to meet a master, "when the student is ready the teacher appears."

:monkeydance::rofl2: Thanks for repeating this worn out (wrong) platitude. There is no evidence for this at all. No masters, all Buddhas waiting to be killed on the road.

Well, I assume you have some particular definition of 'normal' right?

I would define 'normal' to be something that happens most the time. Well over fifty percent of the time. For example if I let go of a rock without pushing it, it falls to the earth. If I show that to you, I have demonstrated something normal. If the sun rises in the morning, that is something normal.

Im not up on philosophers specific definitions. What does 'normal'
mean in philosophy?

That's a nice attempt, except the challenge is for it to be completely normal in every respect.

Surely the enlightened master will blow you up with some chi where as the wise old man will probably just build you a desk made of MDF?

However, mark me as non-participant swami.

Wisdom is when someone old (or vastly experienced) uses their combined, world knowledge in order to come to the correct conclusion during a given situation... EVEN WHEN THEY DON'T HAVE ALL THE FACTS.

Isn't this called luck....?
They won't know if the person came to the right conclusion until after all of the facts are in....      :ohwell:

You have a point... but luck is based on odds. Try your luck enough and you will eventually break even.

If you are observant... or wise, you can always figure out it is going to rain BEFORE you actually get wet. It is not dumb luck. You don't need ALL the facts.

You don't need to see a fire to know where smoke comes from.

Some unobservant people may call it, "Magic" or, "Enlightenment" when an observant person comes to the correct conclusion without all the facts. They are wrong.

You called it, "Luck"... that too is incorrect.

There is a difference between an educated guess, and a guess.

The odds are FAR better for the wise.

If one would truly be wise, I would think that they would refrain from guessing at anything at all -
it increases the odds of not being right OR wrong....

(I didn't call it luck, I asked if it was called luck....     )

Just curious: What exactly is your standard of proof here? Wouldn't you need to be able to distinguish the two in order to tell if we were right or not?

Well, he is wearing a shirt that says "I Killed A Bear Cub At The Age Of 11". T-shirts like that don't come along every day. Kind of brings attention to one, I would think. :sherlock:
