A difference that makes no difference is no difference.
So many times I've been right on the edge of digging into that bastard; there is a difference, but I just can't articulate it well enough...
Who will help me illustrate the difference?

"A difference that makes no difference is no difference"
Yah Mon.....but if it really WERE a difference then it would make a difference.......and how can it really be a difference and not make a difference especially if it IS a difference that makes a diiference ......btw Ulysses.........have you ever noticed how whenever you say one word over and over that it loses all meaning? That the word becomes totally detatched from the symbol that it supposedly represents?

Well, no. Suppose I would claim that the universe was created five minutes ago. If you have a memory of lying at the beach last year, this memory was also created five minutes ago.
Think about it. Everything would be the same as now. It would make no difference to you, me or anyone else. Thus, it would be no difference.
The point of the statement "A difference that makes no difference is no difference" is, I think, that if someone suggested the theory that the universe was created like this five minutes ago, we could agree with him and continue discussing something more interesting. You agree with that, Ulysses?

damn. (bow down and worship) good post. does swami have anything to say for himself? so if the universe was created five minutes ago would there be a point to anything? and how do you know we stay in one universe? see, i think there is a macro universe which is like a wall on which a plethora of micro universes like our own drop down. now what if one of those universes passed through another one? one that is identical in everyway? and thus we would be inhabiting for a time two universes. and then if they seperated, what if the me from this universe got transferred to that universe and the me from that universe is now sitting and writing this stuff in this forum? would that be a difference that made no difference therefore it would be no difference?

>You agree with that, Ulysses?
When approached that way, yes, I can agree.
I still think there's a very simple way to crack that sig wide open though, I just can't reach it..
There's no reason I want to try. Call it an exercise of brain power. I like yours.
