There are two connotations of the word ego, Murex...

1. Sense of self (not a bad thing)
2. Overinflated sense of self (a bad thing)

Make sure you know which one you're using.
Getting rid of 1 necessarily gets rid of 2.
However, getting rid of 2 DOES NOT necessarily get rid of 1.

Drugs can get rid of both. (level 5 is temporary loss of #1)
Philosophy can get rid of 2.
Meditation can get rid of 2 (for sure) and some claim it can lead to loss of 1 (temporarily, duh!).
