Re: did God create evil? [Re: trent]

What you call "God" and "evil" are ideas and words created by man to try to comprehend what his limited mind perceives as his (or her) existence. Existence is far more complicated and at the same time simple to be explained with words.

So what. It dons't take away the fact Evil actions and terrible things have and do happen. Evil is the label man gives to it. Man defines certain colors with certain names, certain words, without those words the colors still exist.

What about when these things are done for the purpose of "Good"?

Does a "good" intention somehow make an "evil" action better? I mean, you can have the best intention for kidnapping the president and forcing him to eat a bunch of mushrooms or lsd or something, but would that make it "good"? well... maybe.

Evil is rejection, absence and nothingness.
It's simply a 'byproduct' of creation aka existence.
Where there is creation, then there is nonexistence.
It seems like a dual necessity.

Even to perceive 'evil', where it occurs and then ... maybe and hopefully 'prevent' it.

because every person in the world is immoral for the most part, they use each other for their own advantage, they steal, they lie, and so on. but to get people back for there thievery, for there lies, for all there manipulation. is true evil

I was going to say be logical about this, but with a title like "did god (as in the dog that created everything, but spent the majority of the time creating one planet, hah!) create evil?" I realise that would be fallacy.

Evil is a perversion of people's selfish desires, evil is when people can isolate themselves from the consequences of their actions, so the people that instigate wars stay far away from the death and violence it brings, whilst reaping the enjoyment of all the profit they make from it. No demons, no mischievous faeries, no headfuck "God made everything, including evil, but god is all loving, so he didn't make evil."

Iluvatar created the world by sounding a harmony of music into the empty spaces of his universe. There arose mountains and oceans and the sky from the music that he created. It was good until the harmony of the music split and directed itself in a way that Iluvatar did not intend. The director of this clashing harmony was named Melkor and he was second to Iluvatar in cunning and he was never contented and he was jealous of Iluvatar. So his harmony clashed with that of Iluvatar and tore down mountains and filled lakes and cut deep channels that scarred the world. And now is the battle of light and dark.

The way I see it, as my interpretation of the Jewish faith is that G-d gave us free will so when we do good deeds (mitzvahs) we bring G-d joy, and of course if we do wrong, we bring him displeasure. If you want to take a step back from my specific religious beliefs, this could translate into, if you are truly a good person and being "good" for unselfish reasons you will truly be happy no matter how great your physical suffering, and if you are truly a bad person deep down you will suffer and miss out on all the good the world has to offer.

On a side note, I would also like to add my interpretation of "hell" as being merely the place on earth you dwell if you live in sin and complete disregard for fellow inhabitants of this amazing place.

“People usually consider walking on water or in thin air a miracle. But I think the real miracle is not to walk either on water or in thin air, but to walk on earth. Every day we are engaged in a miracle which we don't even recognize: a blue sky, white clouds, green leaves, the black, curious eyes of a child -- our own two eyes. All is a miracle.” -Thich Nhat Hanh

I think something could be said about Evil and 'Rah' (Ra) being the same word.

I agree here totally. Rah can mean a host of things (Rah is hebrew for evil). It can mean hurt, trouble, bad, sore, adversity, and several other things. To take this one passage without considering the context is eroneous.

God placed his judgement, in this case, on a group of people for their wickedness.

Moral "evil" is not intended in this context but rather the antithesis of shalom (peace, welfare, welbeing). The preacherman would say, "Calamity and misfortune will surely ensue from wickedness of ungodly men."

This verse in Isaiah is one of the most misused passages thanks to poor english translations of the Bible.

That being said, as a gnostic I believe evil is real as is good. I believe purpose can be found in both, and both have ramifications. Did God create evil is not as important to me as to how I can be fruitful in my own life.

According to scripture sin or "evil" is simply going against God's will. It is the other choice. So in that sense it is man or the angels that do evil not God.

EG
