well what if it was mistranslated but its not exactly feathers but people skin and they just didnt have a word for it and well feathers are clothing. so theres mad shape shifting albino(wanna be) lizard people that get high to fly.

There is a novel based on the Popol Vuh, Domain by Steve Alten.  The protagonist's father is an archeaologist who investigates the Mayan calendar and learns that it predicts the end of the world.  His son then sets about saving the world from apocalypse, predicted to occur on Dec. 21, 2012.

What is really found riveting were the journal entries by the father, where he describes the pyramids, the stonehenge, Nazca drawing, the ruins of Tiahuanaco, etc. , how they have built with great precision and how the people who built it possessed great knowledge of astronomy and mathematics that greatly exceeded what was known at that time.

I find the Mayan mythos absolutely fascinating.

Galactic Equator

From what I have read, I gathered that the Mayans had very advanced astrological know-how and figured out the exact date when the Sun crosses over the equator of the galaxy. Maybe this new world (most of the places I read says that the "end of the world" just means the end of this world, not necessarily the end of humanity... in Golden Age type of thing. This crossing over to the other side only happens every 26,000 years.
I think it's worthwhile, if you think you would like to read more about it, to do so. There is also some stuff out there about a possible cataclysmic polarity shift, but I don't think that's very credible.
