It might take a bit after your first unit to show up on the stats page. If you hit unit 2 and you're still not there, then something might be wrong.
Not sure what could be wrong tho.

Wow, ive been a member for a while and never gave any attention to this...glad I had a slow day here at work. Now running on crazy fast servers here at my office and 3 new PC's. Should help out the work load a bit.

When do I get the cool little thing under my name?

Remember to ask the permission of your superior (unless you own your own company) before installing it. It can be seen as a violation of acceptable use policies and could get you fired.

Just FYI -- I am staying #1. I dare anyone to challenge me.

If anyone is interested in a self installing program that runs F@H as a service let me know.

That is what I am using. Makes it easy to send my friends who are not too computer literate a .exe or a .scr and have them just double click it, and not have to walk them through the process.

Also makes it easy for my work computers I maintain to make a CD with an Autorun that executes the program. Just pop in the CD, and pop it out, and move on to the next one.

I wanna see some competition. We have lost alot of momentum, I wanna see shroomery be putting out the numbers it should. There are much smaller forums doing alot better than us, because we are lazy.

I think some sponsors need to get in here, and have some kind of contest for most active new users, or something.

I need to recode it. I lost the stuff with a bad drive...and I think the original packaging program I used to bundle the software is now detected as a virus due to massive abuse. So until then its manual installations for me.

Ill post if I get time to fix it though

Aight guys. Just read through this again. Used to think folding was something that involved me understanding what I "was doing". Or in some way, I was personally going to be coding something. So now I'm under the impression that its something that operates in the background of my system. Although I'm sure its mentioned somewhere in this thread, someone feel free to give me a short explanation as I'm sittin in class all day doing nothing and want to "figure it all out".

As of now I'm thinkin of installing Linux onto my PS3 and just running Folding@Home on that at my dads office on a T1, which I'm sure would add to our race. But seriously; He just started his own business... 1 computer running on a T1 all by its little self basically running one window of Yahoo all day. Im sure our fight would appreciate that power and speed.

RuNE you could always use FAHSI, I wrote it just for that purpose. It's not tested with the current version of F@H but I think it should still work okay.

feza4 this page has a pretty good overview of what Folding@home actually is and how it works. Like you said, it's designed to run in the background and be unobtrusive. You should be able to put it on pretty much any computer, and once it's installed it doesn't require any further intervention and you won't even notice it's there.

Incidentally the PS3 is actually supposed to be really fast at crunching F@H work units, Sony is releasing a native version of the client which will be the fastest option. I don't think it's out yet though.

I hope this answers your questions, I'm looking forward to having you on our team!

Peace,

-Y

The folding process is CPU intensive, but does not require much bandwidth at all. A dialup connection may take some time of course, but some work units take days/weeks to complete so its not a big deal either way.

i just finished my first fold, and when i click on my name on the folding site it says i'm on some random team instead of the shroomery team. team http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=577 even though in folding it says team 12679

ok i figured out someone else already had my user name so there goes a few days of folding.. ohh well i made a new name so hopefully it works this time. i'm wondering how big peoples work loads usualy come, my first one is 50,000 frames woot.

I made another installer for Folding @ Home.
It was compiled with Bloodshed Dev-C++ freeware. Download it, and edit main.cpp and then compile.

Should compile on all systems, if not shoot me a PM.
You need an FTP server for it to work, the program downloads the folding @ home client, and config from a specified FTP host, and installs it as a windows Service with whatever name you choose.

If you need somewhere to host your stuff via FTP, msg me. Or if you need someone to compile this to a .exe for you with your information, msg me.

This is a great tool for installing on all your work computers, with the admins permission, or emailing to friends who want to get involved.

Lets get the ball rolling again
