Illusions Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception
    #6201853 -

The fear you feel when watching the news and hear about Korean nukes.
Is an illusion. Created for you by the entertainment news media machine.

Tune in at 6 for the full story

The anxiety you feel when you see a dead bird on you porch, and you think "Oh no its Bird Flu. Call the health department."
Is an illusion. Created for you by the media.

For more on this story visit our web site ww.bullshitmedia.news......or tune in at 10

Most of Americans fear/anxiety comes from the media.
Virtually NONE of these things have any bearing on our personal lives. Yet we spend an amazing amount of energy worrying about things that will never affect us.

If no one had ever known about the N Korean nuclear test, how would your life be different?
It wouldn't.

If you had never heard of the "Bird Flu" how would your life have changed?
It wouldn't have.

These are all "Vagaries of perception" that have no point in real life, other than to bring us down and take us away from our "happy place".

I’m writing an article on this same issue and I agree with you wholeheartedly. Daily news serves no useful purpose anymore. It falls in the same category as watching mindless TV for me. Ask yourself:

- How many times has something you’ve heard or seen in the news changed your daily schedule (weather and traffic report doesn’t count)?
- How many personal problems or issues have you solved through keeping in touch with daily world events?

The answer to both questions will probably be none. News is just propaganda. It would be much better if we would focus our awareness directly to our environments. This is how we are made to live anyway.

It is an amazing phenomenon to say the least.

The fact that so many people are gullible enuf to believe some of the garbage that spews from the media, is what is so amazing to me

There is very little 'valuable information' in the media. To tell you the truth... I don't see any value in it at all.

Not much value. Yet people choose it? Want it. Crave it. Addicted to a daily dose. Bizarre.

Incorrect. If you fear what is represented by the information that the news broadcasts, then that fear is created by you, not for you. The news does not transmit fear, even if the images and ideas presented by the media bring oneself to experience fear. Its your choice, and to propose that the media is responsible for the fear that some individuals may choose to experience is ignorant of the nature of reality.

Incorrect. See above.

I'd like to request that you substantiate this statemnt effectively, as it sounds more like an empty, baseless claim to me.

We?

The fact remains that everything that is considered national news will affect us on some level or another. Every individual on this planet is connected to each other through various avenus of interaction - economy, etc. Whether or not we choose to worry about these things is a different matter.

Um, yeah it would, you wouldn't know about the nuclear test. :smirk:

Sure it would have, you would not have been informed of a certain strain of flu.

This is a world of events, and clearly some individuals desire to be aware of major events that happen within this world. Proclaiming that being aware of the news serves no point is a judgement that could not speak for anyone's life but one's own. The notion that receiving the news implies that one will be "brought down" is ridiculous.

If you stop absorbing mainstream media (most television and newspapers), your life will improve and you will be more empowered to act positively and effectively, not less.

What aspect of reality suggests that this is necessarily true?

Aspect: "way in which a thing may be viewed or regarded; interpretation."

Reality: "real things, facts, or events taken as a whole"

Necessarily: "as a matter of compulsion or requirement"

rephrased: what way of viewing things or events as a whole suggests that this is true as a matter of compulsion.

the answer to this question is: My way. My way of viewing things suggests this.

Only, i dont think its true as a matter of compulsion (necessarily) i think its true usually, commonly or ordinarily (generally)

Well, then, I'm glad I sought clarification on the matter.

Generally, yes, I believe that the less one is exposed to the media, then the less one's identity is associated with it, as it is present in one's life less (our identity results from our experience). However, I don't necessarily think that one who is exposed to media is any less able to hold a positive outlook, or that one who ceases exposure will be more capable of doing so.

I see people on a daily basis fretting/worrying/anxious about something they saw on the news. Virtually none of it will affect them in any noticeable way. Even if it does there is little to nothing they could have done about it.

How did knowing that N. Korea detonated a nuke change your daily routine, or affect your life in any way?........It didn't, and it won't.

How is knowing about a new strain of a flu virus going to effect your life? It won't. You will either get a flu shot every year like you always have or you won't

They called it a pandemic to make it sound bigger than it really was. The only people who needed to worry about this "new" virus were people who lived with their poultry.

The media uses sensationalism to get you to watch it......not to provide you with useful information

Doomsday prophesies are a part of the human condition. The media cashes in on this. Global warming, asteroid impacts, bird-flu, nuclear bombs.......are all improvisations of the doomsday prophesy.

The news is just as controlled by the Nielson ratings system as the sit-com that follows it.

Don't let the news programs control your emotional state.
Most of it will not affect your life at all.

I have a friend who loves to listen to the news. He never lets it get to him as far as I can tell. He looks at it like he's observing another planet and doesn't take it personally. Of course he's aware of himself and most of his programs and so those can't fool him anymore. So it's just entertainment for him. Not so for most I agree.

The news is kinda like the WWF........somewhat entertaining if you can suspend your beliefs long enough.
