We give love.

being offensive or defensive is playing the game of the world.
skill for true success resides in your ability to distinguish between the game, and what is really IMPORTANT, your clarity and peace of mind.
if the game is more important than holding on to your own real private bliss, the negativity enforces dishonesty in yourself and everyone involved with you.

you will always be offended by the Lie-Cycle, the World.
it's a measure of your own Strength or Personal Power to not allow the tyrant to disturb your holy thought patterns.
when you succumb to hurt feelings, and thinking yourself a victim rather than beloved being, you're only lying to yourself and indulging in fear, anger, doubt, lust- low levels of consciousness.

have you ever offended yourself?

Becoming offended is a huge waste of time and energy. Why must we be continually attached to being right or wrong. This robs us of our happiness, and hinders our ability to act. If you don't agree with this..well, fuck you.

In life, we stumble while we walk, we miscommunicate when we speak, we forget when we are learning.

taking offense also fits into this category.

Sometimes a person can take offense enough times for him/her to be tired of it, and this allows the learning process to begin.

You ask why should we be hung up on right and wrong when you say that 'taking offense is a huge waste of time.' That is an opinion like any other. That involves your idea of right and wrong.

This is not to say that i don't agree with you on some level hue.

We have these ideas of right and wrong to build upon ourselves. it acts as our fuel.

Everyone learns from at least one mistake in their life. Thus the mistakes provides grounds for learning, and that to me is not a waste of time.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

I have noticed that when people criticize me or say something "considered offending" I have 3 reactions:

1) I smile: when I'm aware of what they are saying,I'm aware of my shortcoming/weakness so I'm glad that they tell me

2) I smile: when I realise that they are just saying bullshit

3) I think: when I realise they maybe pointing out an angle I haven't considered.

I don't really consider "being offended" as a feeling

Right and wrong is inflexible...it is also defined purely by culture. I prefer the flexibility afforded buy a non-black and white viewpoint. These judgements served us as children, but once one is an adult it is time to grow up and think for ones self.

There's a visible line in being in defensive mode all the time and having something that offends you. If nothing offends you, do you not hold anything sacred? Do you not have respect for anything or anyone?

I can think of several things that would offend me. When it comes to electronics, I keep my synthesizers, my computers, tablets tidy and in optimal condition. If someone would go and abuse my equipment, I would be pissed and offended at their lack of respect for my property.

It is not, however, because I am riding some techie-hipster high horse, but because I use those things for work and I am a strong believer in the effect the work environment has on the workplace.

Should I just smile sheepishly when somebody pours their coffee all over my computer, and say "Hey man - my hard drive is a corpse and you just ruined several years of work - but hey, I'm not offended!"

There's a difference in being insecure and demanding respect.

There isnt such a thing as flexible morals. You either do something, or you don't. You either agree with someone, or you don't. Granted, you can have partial agreement in where you agree with some points of an argument and refute the others, but that in itself is also an absolute.

Everything is sacred. I respect everyone equally. This is not related to black and white values.

"There isnt such a thing as flexible morals. You either do something, or you don't."

O.K. I don't do morals. They are ridiculous. I did not state an absolute...I stated my preference which I am entitled to.

For many people emotions aren't optional, but rather a force that takes them completely out of the blue. They can't help but be offended when faced with certain stimuli.

Many people are governed by their emotions. That isn't good or bad, it just is.

Re: Becoming Offended [Re: Asante]

Taking offense is not always a knee jerk reaction. One can have very few emotions yet still take offense to an action. In the example of my computer equipment taking a hit that I provided in my earlier post, it is purely a cognitive act. I dont 'love' my computer equipment, however I do value it.

It's completely logical, there's absolutely no irrationality involved: If my computer houses my work and my computer gets ruined, then I lose work; I lose money. If I dont have work or money, then I am poor and unhappy. If one continuously disrespects my property, then I will go in a constant loop of retaliation. Sound logical enough, or do I need to rewrite this in OOP format?

Can you respect a child molester as much as you your children? Will you accept everything coming the same as a dumpster accepts everything regardless of its value?

Would you rape your own children?

(And by the way, the fact that you indeed state an opinion (over an absolute message board transferring encrypted zeroes and ones), and not just stay silent is also an absolute)
