Re: Deprogramming 101 [Re: trunksan]

I only have a television because my parents and grandparents bought us one for Christmas, figuring that it would be the best gift for us since we didn't have one.

Of course, I don't have cable, a satellite, or an antennae, and it will remain that way. I'm already considering cancelling my DSL subscription in order to free up finances for other concerns (yeah, fuck all of you! ). Still not sure on that, but I am so tired when I come home from work that I end up sitting in this office chair, and I start to wonder if I should be cleaning my house, and, if I am too tired to clean my house, if I should be in my bed.

Television, quite simply, is nothing that I need to have in my life - I am not missing out on anything of enough value to be included in my life. The internet offers me some valuable content and means of interaction, at the very least. I'm not simply observing projected images - I'm also clicking things!

You guys are worried about TV programming you? That is the least of your worries. You are already being programmed in so many ways that to think that TV even plays a major role is ridiculous. Let's start with your parents and your teachers...they really did a number on you. They programmed you so effectively that you'll never really be free of it. Your employers are busy manipulating your perceptions as well. Let's talk about your peers....yeah even your friends are brainwashing you. Imagine being so programmed that we log into the shroomery so we can program each other...that ones really funny. Because here we are discussing programming, but we are actually recieving it...even if we THINK we are giving it. Let's face facts....if you really want to be free of programming....to be deprogrammed...start examining your most sacred values and beliefs....realize that they are not yours. Become aware of how many decisions you make that are not your own. Examine yourself to the core and root out the personal dogma that other people told you was truth. Become aware. Unless you do you will be always subject to the spells of your fellow black magicians. TV is just a joke...not even a real threat to your freedom.

"Our fellow men are black magicians. And whoever is with them
is a black magician on the spot. Think for a moment, can you
deviate from the path that your fellow men have lined up for you?
And if you remain with them, your thoughts and your actions are
fixed forever in their terms. That is slavery. The warrior, on the
other hand, is free from all that. Freedom is expensive, but the
price is not impossible to pay. So, fear your captors, your
masters. Don't waste your time and your power fearing freedom."

No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda

i think most of us realize that we are being "programmed" by many other things, not just TV. i am not overly worried about it, just aware of it. that's culture, and i don't think you can escape that no matter how aware you are.

overall though i do feel like TV is a drug, and is a problem for some. i definitely think it influences us on how we feel about other cultures and races. it can shape our views on things in a very bias manner, especially the news.

I agree, and on top of our loose cultural programming, there is also our deep-rooted, hard-wired biological software running its own applications.

sure we can say that we were programmed by our parents and teachers to accept that we must go to school, get a job, and make money, so we can buy ourselves something to eat.

however isn't hunger a program in itself, or thirst, or sex?
i guess that's something to think about and further discuss.

getting back to teevee. i think it's a big concern.

not on the personal level necessarily, because when i don't watch tv it is not a problem directly concerning me.

but rather on a global scale i think television is doing way more harm than good. and not only for the reason that watching tv is addicting just like any behavior can be. i feel that the real problem lies in its controllers, the input, the ones who decide what is being screened. my concern is that tv has become a very effective tool for causing the paralyzation of free, open, creative, right-brain thought and directing politically-motivated agendas.

to say that tv is the least of our worries is a little careless in my opinion.

The man who this website is about, questioned the way television was programming our minds and interactions. He wrote various books about media and the "global village." Check it out, it's pretty damn intersting.

I love technology, and i think the television had great potential, especially before the internet came around.  Now with the internet, we can view shows through torrent downloads, but that is still more of a hassle than just turning on the TV (not for long, i think).

My girlfriend has satellite with a DVR, and it really helps that we can record stuff.  We record a few shows we like and will turn it on and watch something every now and then if we are just hanging out or something.  Fast forward through the commercials, you know..

For the most part i hate TV though.

i probably have less than an hour of tv a week, probably less than a half hour actually the most i watch is that 70's show every now and again or stand up comedy on comedy central, in the mornings i just listen to radio for the music and theres a pretty good morning talk show thats funny in the area i live so

i  now spend all my time reading stuff like this on the internet

and my parents think this is what screws up my head but they dont even realize their being brainwashed into everything they think by the coporate controlled media outfit...

whatever

TV is just a tool, it is neither good nor bad. TV could be used to project educational films, or teach people through different programs. I know when I had to learn English TV helped me a lot. Intent is all that matters. 99% of everyone that watches the telly don't actually watch it to watch a certain program, they just watch it because they have a need to indulge, they need to escape from something that wouldn't require thinking.

A tool shouldn't be blamed for it's abuse. It's like somebody wanting to ban hammers because they keep hitting themselves on the fingers when they try to pound in a nail.

With that said I probably watch ~8 hours of TV a month. Adult Swim, History Channel and the Discovery Channel. But you could do the same indulging on the internet as well, scrolling through the Pub or OTD absentmindelly chomping down Doritos is just as zombifying.
