Deprogramming 101
    #6002721 -

Pick up the remote.
Turn on the TV.
There are so many channels.
What should I tune in to?

Maybe I should smoke some MTV, snort a half-hour of The History Channel, ah fuck that, I’ll just shoot an entire load of FOX News into my veins.

The mainstream media feels so good rushing through my blood. What a rush. Always up to date with popular-culture. Every minute there is something new. It’s so exciting!

Got to run over to my next door neighbor and tell him to switch to channel 25. Tomorrow I must tell my best friend about how this girl cheated on this guy who beat up this other guy in this oh-so-dramatic soap opera. Cause if I don’t tell them, what satisfaction do I have in knowing it all for myself? I have to show the others how up to date I am with the TV shows I ingest daily. What an addiction!

No, it’s not an addiction! TV’s not addicting. Only drugs are addicting, and so is terrorism. Therefore our government is having a war against these evils. They will destroy the drugs and defeat the terrer. My government is good. My government is protecting me from evil. My government cares about me.

Thank GOD for my TV! Praise the Lord! TV is my sacrament!
I love it so much, I place it on an altar of worship right in the living room of my home.
That way my family and I can sit together in silence and stare at the glorious TV screen and LIVE!

Honey! Come here quick! There’s a LIVE emergency broadcast on CNN!
The news man, my messenger, my messiah, is telling us that those muslims in Iran want to nuke us!

Oh my GOD! Those damn muslims! Muslims = Terrorists! Iran = Enemy! Those GOD-damn terrorists! They hate our freedom! They’re jealous of our liberty! America is great! GOD bless America! Let’s kill them all in the name of our GOD!

Commercial break.
Oh, wow, look Old Navy has that new late summer sale! 50% off! That’s so hip!

Look at that new Toyota, its so fast. Mmm, that Subway sandwich looks so delicious! Feed my eyes!

Check out that new Sony HD widescreen TV! That one is so much better. I need a new TV. I must have it.

TV is GOD. I know, I heard it on TV.

So, what’s the truth?

The truth is, the TV will never tell you to press the power button. Not once. Not in a million years.

The TV is holding you hostage.

Therefore,

Turn off the TV.
Put down the remote.
Go outside.
Tell your girlfriend you love her.

Kick the habit.
Love is cooler.

 :peace:  :mushroom2:

Peace out.

well actually the tv will tell you to turn it off if you look for satire

like those commercials where some hip adult condescends against you for not knowing much about your children's interests...

or some sort of sitcom cartoon that has an anti-tv message in it.

but yeah it is an altar......

And how many times do you find yourself just turning on the tv to break the silence, and never watch it. I find myself doing that.

I'll tell you one thing, t.v. is the lamest way to spend a trip. Thinking you are experiencing what the people on the t.v. are experiencing, that's no fun at all. Live your own damn life

I'm trying my damndest to kick the habit entirely. I'm from about 30+ hours a week 6 months ago to maybe 1-5 hours a week, if even that much, now.

I thought this thread was going to be something different, but oh well.

I want to throw away my tv, but I just can't seem to do it.

I've recently cut off my satellite TV subscription in exchange for black screen media. Best thing i've done this month.

Helps to kind of see behind all the bullshit too. When I walk into a diner now and see their TV, all the subliminal cues and distortions in the news become more apparent to me. It actually becomes a useful tool to predict future events. The news is very selective and systematic, after a while you just get a sense of what the globalists' next move will be.

The only things I watch on tv are Simpsons, King of the Hill, That 70's Show, and whatever interesting shit happens to be on PBS.

Fuck the news!

that bugs me a ton.

if anyone listens to tool they'll understand what i'm about to say
cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion.

the TV creates a monumental schism between anyone who partakes in it as a "social" activity.

vicarious at its finest.... eh?

but you know what, i say..... it's better to watch TV tripping than sober, you might just learn something.... you might just understand how the brainwashing works and be terrified into permanent television abstienence.

anyway. the commercials are the worst. they really just detune your brain so much. like unfortunately my family are all tv junkies and whatnot.... so i was around some commercials the other day and i wasn't listening to them, but i felt the entire voice carry on in my head the whole time and suddenly realized what was going on.

at first i heard the peppy bullshit act now because this is the best holy thing you can buy and it will make you forever happy because this product kicks so much ass!!!! blah blah blah and then I wasn't listening anymore, but even though I wasn't lisetning the ENTIRE AD ran through my head on a semi-conscious level and then I realized that for about 15 seconds straight I had been hearing a HUGE barrage of suggestions and motives and agendas even though i was deliberatley not paying attention.

because i am aware of the processing of sensory stimulus on subtler levels than (i assume most people?) i felt it all just slip right in one ear and out the other.

the most overtly concerning example was when i used to get stoned and watch tv. when commercials came on i went into an inescapable trance the entire time, and could not keep the conscious part of my mind, the discerning, judging, viewing, watching mind alert.... rather i was a passive recipient in a light sleep trance state while i could hear but not entirely understand the huge slurry of voices and noices and all that bullshit... then BAM i regained consciousness when my show came back on.

it happened repeatedly.

this is what tv does to you.

at least most of the commercials have happy people though. i'd hate to see what they did to our minds if the people were sad.

errm um, it's the same shit over and over !

do you want to hear my  knock knock joke again?

tv can be DIRECTLY linked to the mind's inability to be quiet and the constant repetetive thoughts and fantasies. we just want to waste time, it doesn't matter if we've seen that episode of futurama 15 times, it's been a few weeks, why not see it again? because God forbid we have silence ? right? right?

it's not that it's evil to watch some tv, it's that the more you watch the more disarmed your intellect becomes and the more you believe that there is NOTHING else worth doing! The more all other opportunities and ideas gradually disappear beneath the huge tapestry of filth!

Look I mean. It creates a consensus reality where thousands of people are constantly being murdered and you can watch it again and again...... terrorists are out to blow you the fuck up. The government is corrupt but it's okay because the news people use placating calm and peaceful tones when talking about scandals that should have us outraged........ people are trying to abduct your kids. SKINNY PEOPLE EAT AT MCDONALDS (as if!!!!!) McDonald's and YOGA go together (WHAT THE HELL!???) ........ and beer = surrealist sunests on the beach.......

Just moved into a new place. We contemplated getting a tele until every friend that came round asked "Where's your tele" like its odd to not have one.
TV is for babies who like to get information spoon fed. Where as with internet you actively seek the info you're curious about.

no i don't think it is. i love the possibilites my computer offers for instance. i also see useful applications for the tell-a-vision set.

i'm merely pointing at its primary use of keeping people in line, so to speak. whether we watch TV or not is entirely our choice.

my main message is, choice. you choose, you're in control. you are pointing the gun/remote at the TV.

probably the other most appalling thing is that the people socialize us.... we are being socialized by fiction!

For instance if you walk into a home and hear people yelling and screaming, you would expect that there is a fight going on, but no it's just the telly.

what's more, no real human being in the entire house is watching the telly, so while they are doing the dishes and eating dinner and reading a book, etc, they are doing it to the tune of fantasy people having a huge conflict.

who here finds it hilarious when some old lady trips and falls over? It's funny, don't lie. You know why? Because whenever that happens on tv millions of laughing voices chime in and they add funny clown like sound effects, thats why.

if you completely cut the tv out the insights you draw into non-abstainer's perceptions of reality become very strange.

http://www.tvbgone.com/cfe_tvbg_main.php

i want to buy one of these and go on a tv turning off spree. department stores. wal-marts. cafeterias.

I spent a whole year at uni without Tv. The only thing that bothered me was that I couldn't watch the Champions League football matches. Other then that I never even noticed it.

I happen to be in Greece the past 2 months and there's this very wierd paradox happening:

On news, they keep on talking about how expensive the country has become and the euro is so expensive and people are stuggling because of high petrol prices, companies fixing prices (i.e free market not working).

By doing that they are basically sabotaging their biggest source of income, advertising, they are criticising the same companies that pay to be advertised on their wavelength!!

Don't think many people notice that!

Just stop watching TV, and get on with your life and your spiritual path. Dont get hung up on the sillyness of pop culture or the bias of the news. Just drop it all like the load of stinky illusions it is, open to the light and get on with it.

Really enjoyed this post. I find TV today so crappy i barely watch it any more. some people in my life watch it almost non-stop though. i just want to shake them and say "hey, do something else!". one person in particular is in poor health and in need of getting out doors more. TV has them sucked in though, and only makes things worse. TV is scary addictive when you consider how many hours some people spend with it. It's like doing a drug all day long, everyday. i think a lot of people don't realize there are other things to do. moderation, like silversoul said.

again, thanks for the post.
