an interesting passage from Ann Rice RE: Psychic Powers
    #5935374 -

"But the most beguiling aspect of my explorations was that I heard the thoughts of these people, ... Unhappiness, misery, expectation. These were currents in the air, some weak, some frighteningly strong, some no more than a glimmer gone before I knew the source.

But I could not, strictly speaking, read minds. Most trivial thinking was veiled from me, and when I lapsed into my own considerations, even the strongest passions did not intrude. In sum, it was intense feeling that carried thought to me, and only when I wished to recieve it, and there were some minds that even in the heat of anger gave me nothing."

- The Vampire Lestat

Wow. I've never seen psychic powers so well-described by a narrative. This really tripped me out when i read it. I'm sure now that Ms Rice has these same powers she writes about, or otherwise she wouldn't be able to describe them so accurately.

People always ask me to read minds. They want proof. Well, it doesn't work that way. Those scientific ESP cards with the triangle, wavy lines, circle and square are useless in measuring psychic ability.

Because its not about recieving logical information, its about recieving currents of emotion, waves of feeling in the soupy ocean that is reality.

I think a good poker player has to be psychic, has to be able to read the emotions of those he plays with like a polygraph.

Its not an exact science, but sometimes I undeniably get things from people, mostly feelings, but if I focus hard enough, even words and pictures.

If only I had the control over these abilities that Ms Rice describes. Since these abilities have surfaced to the forefront of my mind, I have had a terrible time keeping them under control. I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes I hear voices. Sometimes they are so loud, they overpower my own inner voice, and sometimes they argue with eachother.

But these voices are not from aliens or devils. They are almost always the voices of my friends and family. People who know me and are likely to focus a conversation on me. Its almost as if I can hear what they say about me while I'm not around. This can be very painful as oftentimes the things said aren't pretty.

Now, before you go saying I should check myself in to the state institute, mind you I do have enough control over myself not to ACT on what the voices say. Its not as if I'm going to jump off a building if I heard my mother saying I should in my mind, but it can be annoying sometimes. It can make it hard to have my own thoughts when others intrude. However, the more I take care of my brain and meditate, the more this ability becomes subject to my command.

You might even say, "J, you're just paranoid," but I have verified quite a few of these things. Like I'll hear a conversation between two people in my mind and then later find out that they actually did have that conversation. Weird. And everyone knows that we all talk shit behind eachother's backs, its gotten to the point where I just expect it because its human nature to gossip and bullshit about eachother. I mean, if you've ever gossiped with one of your friends about another one of your friends that you both know, its real easy to logically extend that and figure out that people probably talk about you.

But what's trippy is when you can actually hear with your mind what they are saying when you're not around.

I don't think you have to be very psychic to pick up on the emotions of people in the room. I think most people can sense "bad vibes." I've never really picked up on words or pictures from other people, but I've been told before(and often sensed) that I have a keen ability to "read people." That is, I tend to be very observant of different people's personalities.

keep focusing on and honing those abilities of yours, and they will show you how deep the rabbit hole goes

but I warn you right now to be prepared for the worst, because the dark underbelly of the human psyche can be a terribly frightening place indeed.

I mean, its one thing to know just by feeling that someone doesn't like you in general, but to be able to clearly hear them saying something very specific and personal can be very offensive.  Its like you hear someone's uncensored opinion of you coming from the depths of their minds, those things they think but dare not speak, and you're like: "Ouch" :smirk:

On a side note, I've found that many of Ann Rices descriptions of supernatural states of consciousness are based on drug experiences.  I mean, the way she describes vampires being drunk on blood sounds an aweful lot like cocaine and marijuana intoxication to me.

I've always felt that psychedlics tapped me into the collective unconscious of Earth and all its inhabitants, including humans, animals, and even plants and machines.  We write these expiriences off by saying, "Oh, I was just high..."  But perhaps there is some validity there?  As I get older and see more, I become more and more convinced that we are all connected, and that this universal sameness behind all things is what makes psychic powers and magik possible.  Being just a novice at these things, I can no way employ these methods for material gain, or even prove they exist.  But I suspect that if I keep at it, there are no limits to what I will be able to accomplish with these silly dreams of powers that science says do not exist.

One of my friends recently told me that Ann Rice has become a born again and actually published several Christian books.  This is a wild departure from her trashy, debaucherous tomes of vampires, witches, and sex magik.

Here's my personal theory on the motivation behind her reform:  Ms Rice's favorite character of her own creation was obviously Lestat.  He represented to her the perfect man; a hopeless romantic reared in times of decadence and rebellion.  He's obviously a female pornographic fantasy of a charcter (at least for a certain type of female).

I think at some point she realized that Lestat was a metaphor for Christ.  A suicidal immortal, ashamed of the crimes of the eternals, determined to blow the whistle on the whole scam.  I think she made the connection between her favorite character and Christ, and this caused her to become born again.  Of course, I could be wrong.  Only Ms Rice herself would know

Is it like hearing voices world-wide?
And why does the man behind the curtain have to be small?

no, I mainly recieve from those who are close to me, friends and family.  When I'm in public or at a party, I can clearly recieve the general vibes and, if I focus, the thoughts and feelings of the people around me.  The less people there are present, the easier this is.

However, I have recieved transmissions from across the globe, but this is a rarity as such things are usually drowned out by the psychic noise all around me that emanates from my current whereabouts.

oh, and I think thats the direct quote from the movie, right?  Maybe he said 'little' instead of 'small'.  Anyway, I just thought it was a funny quote, good for a sig

Exactly. Here's my theory: Your brain is the tool that your consciousness uses to process information. Psychedelic drugs tend to supercharge the brain, which allows it to process more information, including information that we normally only process subconsciously. The "sixth sense" is a sense that we normally don't consciously use, so it tends to be weak. But on psychedelics, the senses are in a heightened state, including our underused sixth sense. So we may suddenly find ourselves experiencing this sense for the first time, and often dismissing it as mere "hallucinations."

ahhh, the internet is a very tricky filter. I often find it hard to distinguish who it is I am communicating with. getting a little better, but its hard.

when challenged about my abilities they often sieze up. Also, some minds are more well gaurded than others. Its a lot easier to pick up thoughts when others aren't expecting it.

Also, I should mention a power of projection I have. Sometimes, I can project thoughts into the minds of others, and I have verified that it does work sometimes.

see, repeatability and universality is the thing that deludes science into thinking that these things don't exist. The truth is that psychic powers do exist, but they are so finicky and conditional that they often cannot be repeatedly verified as accurate. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but anyone who has experienced these things knows exactly what I am talking about.

Its like the second you least expect it, something pops into your mind, and you're sure you have this power. Then you grasp at it, and before you know it its gone for the moment. This can be very frustrating when you are trying to use personal expiriences to convince others that these things exist, as the moment they are questioned, they cease to be concretely provable.

I'll make a try at what you're thinking, but not in public. check your PMs.

In Your Opinion (or in the opinion of the little man behind the curtain) Is reading minds and playing cards cheating? And; How does one reconcile cheating with not being able to tell a lie?

Is there truth, do you think, to the sentiment that cheaters shouldn't prosper?

Obviously sentiment has no bearing on these affairs whatsoever.

I think it is wise to call a halt to all the maiming and torture and let people decide for themselves whether or not they wish to continue participating in what appears to me to be a process that has deteriorated into a cover-up catering to selfish & inhumane desires.

Really now. If you can do it repeatedly within the same enviroment, you'd be right and I'd bow down. That's what science is all about. And rightly so.
Making claims that aren't repeatable... well, that;s just a pie in the sky. Snake oil, maybe.
Fact of the matter is, you can't.
Psychic powers, as far as reading minds, are not avaiable.
Though we, as observant humans, -can- pick up on posture and speech patterns and thusly discern what another is feeling and/pr thinking.
Has nothing to do with "powers".
You're just observant, man.
So...
What am I thinking right now as I type this?
Other than wishing Swami was here tp do what I am trying because he was so much better at it, I mean.

and you also spoke of being able to project thoughts.  I know exactly what your talking about,...but beware.  I don't have any idea how long you have noticed these happenings, but I can tell you from personal experience after just a half a dozen years of this it drove me to a mental institution.  The human mind is not capable of both containing it's own thoughts and emotions as well as those of others, I would recommend restraint if possible,... at least if you wish to actually enjoy life
