Ideas become trapped within words

Language can be like a prison. As you relate an idea into words, the idea becomes bound to the language describing it. Often when this happens, words become ideas in themselves. Language was meant to express ideas, not become the ideas. As you read a description in more and more detail, the idea becomes more and more entrapped. There is a certain momentum or potential from all thoughts and ideas, and the more they are described in language, the more momentum or potential is lost.

As you read read these words right now, your interpretation of *this* idea becomes "clearer" but at the expense of the idea itself. These words are NOT the idea i'm expressing. These words are my best expression of the idea, a best translation into the language available for dissemination. They cannot come close to even being the idea, for the words are so far removed from the original thought, that much is lost when the idea is translated into language. And so as you read anything, you take your interpretation of it, and put it in a kind of holding cell in your mind. You take this, maybe you judge it, and categorize it as "useful" or "unuseful" and you store it away. But the original idea never reached you. What reached you was an inpretation of a translation of an idea. So what i thought, and what you then think, are very very different things.

That is one way language traps and imprisons. Language is also used to trap other people's ideas. People will "hold you to your word", so to speak. This is their mind trapping and imprisoning your words. You may make a promise you can't keep, or you may lie to get out of troublesome situation. Sometimes people will lie to you, intentionally. How can you search for truth within words, within language, when you know that words are sometimes used *intentionally* to convey that which is not true? Truth and knowledge are not found within language. Language only expresses or points to the truth. That's all it can do.

Sometimes you'll encounter someone who speaks one way, and acts another way. They talk the talk but don't walk the walk. That's because thoughts and ideas are more easily translated into action than into words. Don't rely upon someone's words to know them. You'll know them by their actions. Words are ultimately meaningless. It's the intention, the idea, and the feeling behind the words that are the point.

Actions can be false as well. Just look at those who give to the poor for pride and not for compassion, but they wish to convey the inention of compassion but for pride.

Maybe ideas can be conveyed through words and actions, though not perfectly.

If ideas can't be conveyed through words, why bother speaking?

we think of spirit as the more refined part
the body can carry it
the voice can carry it
words can carry it
but words are not the message just the carrier wave
we still have to do the work.
