Re: Impossible Decisions [Re: Veritas]
    #5144060 -

How do you come to terms with these necessary, but difficult choices?

With the knowledge that, even if I wanted to, I can't re-make a decision I've already made. Regret doesn't make good.

What does your particular spiritual belief/stance tell you about making and living with painful decisions?

That they are only "painful" if I choose to see them that way. I don't, so they aren't

  Very solid and sensible reply.  I sincerely hope that you are always able to apply these ideas to your emotional decisions.  That would make your way through life very smooth.

I've been thinking about changing my signature pic. But I identify with it and so have been frozen with indecision.

Yeah It's been so long since everyone in the house was healthy I've forgotten what we're like.

dave from moxy fruvous used to be my neighbour (a few of the moxy guys lived around the corner) we still recognize eachother from time to time though he has moved away and I will be doing the same in 4 weeks time.

moxy used to play at the cornerstore barbecues for Terry, who has also moved away though I see him too from time to time.

as for explosive atmospheres, don't light any matches until after you opened a window.

anyway, some of these decisions don't need to be made, they make you instead.
sometimes they were actually made a long time ago and you are just now realizing that this is not a choice at all;
and sometimes they are a real opportunity to be a light that shines for a long long time.

Impossible Decisions. You know the ones I am talking about.

You mean like Coke or Pepsi for lunch?

Seriously, the more difficult a decision, the more I fall back on pragmatism and try to reduce the problem to numbers whose weight makes the decision for me.

I guess that's not surprising coming from me, eh.

3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

modern life presents us with so many choices, so many decisions, that a lot of people are driven nuts by this alone. we've got a million choices for everything, and our culture says, "optimize, optimize, optimize". watch people in the grocery store try to figure out which size and brand of tuna fish will save them 30 cents, which type of toothpaste out of the 100 options is the "best".

the fact is that out of all the different choices open to you, you will probably never make the best choice at anything, ever. you will not go to the best college for you. you will not get the best job, you will not marry the best partner. you will not live in the best place. the life you live will be very far from the "best" that you could have if you made all of the "best" choices. this drives some people crazy. what you've got to do is realize and accept that if you actually planned out and optimized every decision of your life (impossible because you don't have all the information when you need it), you would go insane.

not to mention that some of the most important things of our lives have nothing to do with decisions we've made. just go with it, and forget about optimizing everything. you can't.

very cool  i'm glad somebody here knows of fruvous

dave once drew a picture of zany looking eyes on the back of my concert ticket after a show and wrote "google eyes"  i can only assume he was refering to me, as i was tripping on LSD.  :P  in the same show during Spider Man, in which they ran around through the auditorium, Jian handed somebody a cookie he claimed was "laced with Lysergic".

peace, CJ

Everything is better than it was the last time.  I'm good.

If we could look into each others hearts, and understand the unique challenges each of us faces, I think we would treat each other much more gently, with more love, patience, tolerance, and care.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

If your decision hurts others so much, have you considered their possibility of a choice ?

I keep hard decisions smooth, as I try remembering why I did made this decision. I have to live with the consequences.
If different consequences appear, which are in opposition to the 'why' (cause) of my original decision, I have to reconsider.

I'm not sure I understand.  Are you saying that the pain someone experiences is their choice/responsibility, or that they could make a choice which is counter to mine?

In this case, painful consequences result from either choice on my part.

Re: Impossible Decisions [Re: Veritas]

Perhaps the ones you would hurt with your choice can make a choice themselves, so your choice won't hurt (or will hurt less) you or them ?

I am just thinking about own choices that hurt others, turning around I ask about others choices that hurt me and I see there, it hurts me the most, if I did not get any choice myself in regard to their choice...

You see ?

Yes, I see what you mean now. I believe it is possible (based on my experience) to reduce the emotional pain one experiences through the way you choose to respond to a disappointment or loss. When it is a minor disappointment, it might even be possible to eliminate the emotional pain entirely. For a deep, heartfelt loss, it seems that the choice factor can speed the healing, but not eliminate the pain.

Hmmm...but did you include their (possibility of) choice into your choice ?

So if you are standing your decision on their old decision, there will be no point about worrying about them, I think

Suffice it to say, I have chosen my partner & there is another who is left out.  :frown:
