i would hope that if there are other forms of life out there, they are smart enough to stay the hell away from us, at least for another thousand generations or so.

i dont think we are, but other intelligent life forms are hard to find unless we search in higher dimensions, many of the ones im aware of are actually more like higher dimensional consciousness beings, the ones that aren't in a higher dimension who knows how many of them and how advanced they are.

ask shroomism, i think hes made comtact with some of them

even a 'silicate' based life form i believe? im ever so curious about that one

It seems incredibly unlikely that we are the only intelligent life in this vast universe, if and only if we assume that 1) Life naturally evolves from inanimate chemicals whenever the conditions are right, and 2) Once formed, life naturally evolves from simplistic to intelligent forms.

Even if this is the case, and it appears that it is, then intelligent life had to emerge somewhere first.

There is no reason to rule out the possibility that intelligent life evolved first on planet earth.

So,
Maybe, maybe not.

would someone mind finding some of the better formulas that calculate the possibilities of life on other planets? Ive seen many before, but wouldnt even know where to begin on google.

The Drake Equation was the first one and is as fraught with error and wild assumption as the entire SETI project.

"Run!

Are we alone? I really dont know. It would be interesting either way. If we are alone and survive long enough to maintain a healthy balance with resources and technology, it might be our "destiny" to make the Universe alive. We're seriously picking up technological momentum.

We probably aren't alone, though. What does that imply? Another guess.

Here is the deal though. Even if populated with other intelligent species we we will be much less likely to be able to communicate with them than we are with an octopus.

Sorry Star Trek fans. English is NOT the intergalactic language. Hell - verbal language is also highly unlikely to the the communicative norm; nor are humanoids the de facto body design.

Repubs and Dems are unable to communicate and are the same species (more or less). What hope does that hold out for interspecies understanding?
