Benifits of Lies
    #4775023 -

i meditated last night and the first time in well over a year i had a bit of a toke before i started meditation...then i started to work on myself. healing and what not. i put myself in a state of mind and told myself that i am already healed, that i am free of past, issues, and the human condition, i don't know if had anything to do with drugs put pretty much instantly i felt my bodily pains dissapear, seemed to identify all my issues and work through them, all body and mind problems, just seemed to dissipate, and started to become more than body/mind, fully intergrated into the experience of being a whole, fully healed being. its really nothing new to me to experience this, i can do it when sober too, but not to the experience when i am under the influence of pot.

so are there any benifits of lying to oneself?

is it lying or just affirming ones potiential that a person could have, and fully feeling the effects what it is to be like when a person is in that state, putting them on the road to healing, and help to acheive that goal?

don't know if that makes sense LOL, not at the moment, just woke up.

"so are there any benifits of lying to oneself?"

IMO yes- the depths of a person's problems may be far deeper than they can integrate. lying to oneself is a way of coping in the interim, so that a person can deal with problems a little bit at a time.

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. ~ Albert Einstein

There can be "truths" which aren't factual, but lead one towards a greater truth. In Buddhism, they have a concept called "no-self." This means that there is no part of you which is eternal and independent. Most schools do not teach this right away to their students, for fear that it might lead to nihilism. Instead, they start with teachings like consciousness being the self, or Buddha nature, and so on. As the student grasps each concept, they are then taken up a level to an even higher understanding of no-self, until finally they reach a point where they fully understand it. If at any point a student displays nihilist tendencies, they are taken a step down. So essentially, there can be partial truths which must first be understood to grasp the greater truth.

might be a bit off topic but isn't nihilism already a form of no-self concept?

No. Nihilism is a "nothing matters" concept.

Nihilism as a philosophical position is the view that the world, and especially human existence, is without meaning, purpose, comprehensible truth, or essential value.
