Duality or Judgment?
    #4303803 -

Is it accurate to say that clear-cut distinctions of good/bad, pleasant/unpleasant, love/hate, happy/sad, etc... exist outside of our judgments about our (and others) experiences?

If we could experience both "sides" at the same time, and refrain from eliminating one or the other from our perception, would they peacefully co-exist?

Hue's post on the Sex Surveys for 11-year-olds thread inspired this thought.  Hue's premise seems to be: if Icelander is truly loving and accepting, he would not harbor resentments and judgments.

Do contradictory behaviors negate each other?  Why should the negative behavior negate the postive--why not the other way around?

If we look at it this way, then Icelander could not have been harboring resentments, or intend any insult, because he has previously posted belief in love and acceptance.

The Yin-Yang symbol depicts contrasting sides, but with a dot of the "opposing" color in each side.  The philosophy behind this (as I understand it) is that purity is an illusion.  The presence of darkness in the "light" side does not negate the lightness.  The presence of lightness in the "dark" side does not excuse the darkness, nor does it require excusing.

Hey! I'm a work in progress. I fuck up all the time. I am full of everything. I love and I hate. I like the way love feels, so I am trying to cultivate it, by practicing. I still get defensive all the time and I have lots of fear. I am working on total self exceptance of myself as I am right now. That's what I have determined love to be and the healthiest way for me to live.

i agree that there's both sides.
i wonder if love and hate are different sides to being.
like, love stems from strength, hate stems from weakness. but a person only has a certain degree of strength, so there's always strength and weakness (half full half empty sort of thing)
both are there, from different sides.
a person has a certain degree of strength. encounters falling below the threshold a person faces with love. encounters falling above the threshold a person faces with hate.
so the point is make yourself a stronger person

I think love is our true nature.  when all thoughts are subsided and judgement is not there, and you are fully present (fully being in the now) then love is the only thing that can exist. Negative emotions exists only in the imagined future or in dwelling in the past.

but what you are talking about are emotions, things the body feels because of the mind.  The mind is like an antennae that picks up vibes around you, as well as giving off your own.  There's nothing really "outside" of you.  We have this nice illusion here though to fool us.

"Do contradictory behaviors negate each other? Why should the negative behavior negate the postive--why not the other way around?"

I like your thinking here!  Why would anything negate anything else?  that's furthering the duality complex, not to say that it's good...or bad...or anything like that  hehe

WE are all walking contradictions lol.  I'm no better than you or vice-versa, we constantly contradict, but the more we are aware of it, the more we can better ourselves.  in that case, saying the contradiction is there is a good thing so maybe some learning can be done, but why would there be any negation? heh negation

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.
