 Diamonds are a girl's best friend

My bf and I were discussing wedding rings. What size, what shape. We entered into a discussion of what does it mean to have a big diamond vs. a small diamond vs. no ring at all, or maybe just a gold band.
My opinion is that it shows how much a guy values you, how much money he plunks down (invests in) on a diamond. His opinion is different. I won't say what it was, but his opinion got me to thinking.
What is the meaning behind an engagement ring?
Do you hold value in such a thing? Is the giving of an engagement ring a good custom?

I hold no value in it. My girlfriend/partner would never accept one.
If you think how much money he spends on you shows how much he values you, then he has just bought himself a material girl.

Diamonds are a form of carbon. That's the extent of my thought on the subject. If you feel that your husand has to support a corrupt industry to show you his love, then go for it, but as for me I think it's all bullshit.

I have a diamond on my ring finger. At first I was unsure about it, I'd never worn one before. It was funny telling people that I was engaged and most womens eyes went straight for my hand.
I would have been happy with no ring at all, a promise is good enough for me.... but I got one, and now that I'm used to it, I think it's the most beautiful ring in the world. The shiniest, most perfect cut diamond in the world couldn't hold a candle to my little pebble.

Such trinkets can not possibly represent your love, but that is what they are supposed to stand for. Diamonds are the hardest element on earth, unbreakable by any force man can create. So is your love, unbreakable and clear. No deceptions or lies lie in diamonds, at least that is the concept behind it.
When the light enters a diamond it is magnified. When your partner enters your life, you magnify his light into something even greater than he could ever accomplish on his own and vice versa.

To me, the ring is a superficial symbol of the bond between two people, with emphasis on the superficial. To me, it means nothing (my bank account on the other hand...). I guess most women are gold diggers.
Now I have a question for the ladies: would you still want a diamond ring as a symbol of love/bond if a nice big one cost about $10?

This just *might* seem a bit nutty to you, but if you are very Adept in Magick, you could take a lump of coal, "clear the crystal", and then go sell the raw diamond to a merchant...
OK. Even I'm not far along enough to pull THAT stunt off (yet), but I'm working on it... hehehe

im a fan of gold weeding bands nothing shiny nothing fancy im just that kind of guy. But if my women was an efevesent dazzeling kinda women and a large diamond would coplement her beauty then id get her that larg rock.

or do the "bloodthirsty warlords" speak for the diamond....?
