Welp after 5 years, 3 months of heavy use, I OD'd.

Well I quit drugs for 11 days. I was happy and then I began to get bad withdrawls. Holucinations, shaking, depression and nightmares. I thought, "Heeeey 1 more time won't hurt.".

I'm recovering from my OD, bromide poisoning (from a popular dissasosiative), slight not server or I'd be a corpse right now. It was good that I did, it's the reality check I needed to brake my addiction.

I had my wife take my keys and bank card so I don't do anything stupid until all withdrawl symptons stop, I even told to not believe me no matter what I say, yeah it gets that bad.

After I took a dangerous dose of something, the part in my brain that told me to stop doing shit turned off.

The secound dose I ended up having a bad argument w/ the toilet. (the mouth of the toilet actually moved when it spoke, and my headphone speakers were arguing with eachother. (This is not to glorify this kind of useage I'm just reporting it.)

I wanted to feel that wonderfull heavenly feeling of "ice cold lemonade on a hot summers day talking the shit to a close friend you've known all your life". This feeling is better than E, it must be what heaven feels like if it exsists and only comes at life threatening doses, that I only tried this last week. So the next night I took another dangerous dose. Nothing happened.

The next day I woke up to find myself shaking, on the inside and outside, very fast and hard. I couldn't speak for hours, completely loss the ability to talk. I kept having heavy holucinations. I kept not being able to lift my arms. I also nealry fainted several times. I was also very hot.

I looked up how to take care of myself, instead of going to the ER. I put my feet up. Ate healty food and vitamins. Drank plenty of fluids and kept dabbing myself w/ a wet cloth.


I'm glad that I OD'd it fucking told me that I needed to stop and I took drastic messures to stop myself from getting anything else if I get really bad withdrawls again.

What is the General Question? Stay away from drugs for a while, you are looking to gain something you cannot from getting high. When you return do something less detrimental like smoking some herb or eating mushrooms.

You're probably right. That depends on what you call permanent damage though. I don't mess with drugs that tickle my pleasure receptors too much, too much pleasure makes sobriety duller when you come down--everytime. I would say the crash varies in lasting depending on (a)drug used (b)frequency of use.

I'm down now and I feel fine, not depressed and I was laughing a lot and having fun today (other than feeling a little sicky). I got some 5-htp from GNC and took the recommded dose incase I get depression from withdrawls or something, I figured it might help?

Anyway I think I'm a-okay. Just need to stay away from any kind of mind altering things for a looong time, and take it easy for a week or so.

I mostly feel ashamed about my use and I hope I finally learned a lesson.

glad to hear it. you sure seemed to like dxm.

good to see your takign care of buisness. hard to see teh problem,or accept it, when your in the middle of it.

5-htp will probably work. i was a little more irratible of it i think. may also want to try out ashwagandi...sp? withania somnifera.

Yeah, 5-HTP will probably help somewhat. I think DXM acts largely on the NMDA receptor complex though, so you might want to look into some amino acids such as L-Tyrosine and others, as they could potentially be helpful. Sleep is generally a good beneficial restorative though, so be sure to get lots of it.

i feel you on this whole dxm thing. i used to be a heavy user and now its been about a year since ive used it. my quiting time was was after a hard trip which the world turned dark (not heaven). it didnt freak me out to much at the time being in the dark world, but it did make me relize it was time to stop. after that trip my mind has never felt quite as sharp as it used to (very hard to describe). it was alot of fun while it lasted but i would discourage anybody from using dxm ever.

I think i used all my allocated DXM trips up in the L8 70's, if you check the Lyceum or Erowid you will find that there is a specific breed of people that don't get off after @ 50 doses.It stopped affecting me so i stopped DXM, glad i did  :crazy:

DXM sucks... Natural drugs, with a history of safe use are the way to go!

Well 1st it was just dxm use, once a month or so. Then once every 2 weeks. Then once a week. Then all reason left my brain and for 3 weeks was every other day. Then the doses became outragous. Then the last 3 days (before the OD) they became dangerous.

Stupid stuff but I hope it's stopped now.

Or you could just eat some red meat or anything high in protiens.  Protiens break down into amino acid.  Hey High School biology actully does come in handy  :smile:

Good luck thenewuser, Maybe you should stick to mushrooms and lsd when/if you get back into the scene.  Glad to hear that it knocked some sence into you though.  You must get through the bad, to get to the good.

man, i overdosed 2x on DXM, but they werent as bad as yours, because my friends got me to the hospital really quickly. good luck to your recovery

I hope your recover goes well.  Maybe look into ways to detoxify yourself,:

-eating the right foods  "Real food diet"
-herbal combinations heres a great list
-the homeopathic route

Did you OD on DXM itself or another chemical in the cough syrup you were taking? Just curious. When I was 15 I OD'd on Triple C's (Caution Nobody Should Ever Use Triple C's as a source of DXM they contain chemicals in them that will severely harm your body.), it was one of the most hellish experiences of my life... I didn't OD on the DXM it was actually the Chlorpheniramine Maleate in them that really fucked with me.

Good luck to you man. I hope you get well soon and stay away from the shit unless you're sick.. DXM is alright in moderate dosages once and a while. I try to stick to using DXM only when I am sick and making sure to get products containing only DXM.

You forgot to mention you got pretty paranoid about the motivations of some of the people who were telling you to cut back.

Ironically, I've been feeling like doing DXM again. It's been about a year.

DXM is fine to do, as long as you don't go nuts.

Ugh I'm not doing to good irl, ever time I fall alseep I have nighmares and wake up in cold sweats and see OEV's and CEV's. I get these hot flashes when I'm just sitting around and I start to sweat and get really hot.

I have no hunger for dxm so I'm assuming it's not withdrawls or it could be.

I always took pure dxm, of robo cough gels which are 99.5% pure. I most likely ODed from either the DXM or the chemicals in the gel part of the cough gel.

I'm not sure what's causeing these latest problems. The symptoms have nothing to do with bromide, which I'm greatly relieved about. I mean I'll be feeling perfectly healthy just sitting around laughin it up as usual, then bam, I'm super hot and I start to sweat. Also not being able to sleep due to nightmares is pissing me off, heh.
