I joined the Army.

I ship out to basic on Wednesday and then 24 weeks of AIT. I know most of the people here will call me a dumb-ass and so on.
I don't really agree with allot of the crap that is going on right now, but it's my decision.
If anyone has been in the Army and would like to give me advice, I would appreciate it.
If you want to flame me, flame away. If you want to give advice then please do.

Good luck......basic training is going to be hell, just remember it doesn't last forever. Be prepared to get deployed to Iraq or another hostile zone, that's pretty much a given. The military isn't for me, but it's great for some folks. Best of luck to you.  :peace:

the army will be an excellent stepping stone for you. I was in for three years and now with the MGIB I get 1200 dollars for every month I go to college. Another great thing is that you could spend every dime you earn and still live comfortably.

You have to take the ASVAB and go to MEPS.

Ignore the negative comments, afterall this isn't the greatest message board in the world to get support for this sort of thing. Anyways...

You made a good choice in my opinion. The next 4-6 years could easily be the best years of your life looking back (one day) although it may not seem like it at the time, especially basic training. Just enjoy the scenery and the company of the people you meet, they won't be there forever.

Sign up for the G.I. Bill, even if you don't ever see yourself going to college. It's a miniscule amount out of your paycheck, but if you decide to go to college full time you'll be getting $1,004 a month to do it.

Good luck whoever you are, you'll have a good time.

you actually support the forces you will be joining?

would you perhaps feel inclined to explain to me why you feel it is a good idea to become a cog in a killing machine that is forceing democracy down the throats of weak nations across the planet much like the comunists were, which were unsucsesfull due to our assistance in crushing them, so we could further spread our own influence?

Not to sound like a critical ass or anything, what you do with your life is your own thing, and all the blessing and good luck I can send to you I do, truley, I just don't understand.

Where are you coming up with 1200? $1,004.00 is the maximum payable GI bill rate for full time schooling.

Take advantage of free schooling while you in. You probably will get deployed but you either be stuck a base or drive around a vechile from time. Just enjoy your self.

army college fund is in addition to the mgib. Its like a college bonus you may or may not be able to get depending on your job. There is also kicker you can pay 600 dollars into that will give you an additional 150 a month.
