considered going into the millitary. its a good choice for some people. sure, ya might be fighting in something you can't win, but it opens doors. that is, if ya survive (which is probable)
many benefits: 3-4 years of costless living (no expenses really besides booze) enlistment bonuses department of defense loans- 1% APR on a $30K loan (300 dollars interest!) employment oppurtunities after service- not just gov't. jobs... if you have "marines-4 years" on your resume, it looks great! seriously- many employers consider that the same as going to an Ivy league school- not bullshitting. it'll get you jobs you wouldn't have landed if ya went to a great college... SERVING YOUR COUNTRY is very admirable. it has serious pull in the corporate/professional world- if thats what you're going for.
good luck in whatever you decide.

extra advice from what you said, i agree with you 100%. but there are things about that to know. 1.agree 2.i never got mine, my recruter lied to me make sure its in writing. 3.good if you get injured on duty, i got medically discharged due to falling off a ladder not on duty. so, no loans for me 4.i blew things up, that was pretty much it, if you do want to help you after the military, do somthing other that dumb grunt.

So now we have a chance to break the cycle. We have to do it eventually, why not now?

I think that most countries want to do that. The problem comes with all the rebel forces.

sorry you got screwed outta your enlistment bonus, but yes, you can get one verified and get maybe $7-10k me thinks.
of course, you have to be more than just a grunt, but if you are capable and intelligent, you can move up the ranks in 4-5 years and make officer throught ocs or whatever its called. that has major pull in many areas, that with individualized training helps alot,
i went to highschool with a couple of twins. smart kids, each soon has 4 years of service in front of each of em, one navy, one army, and they have job offers right now- they're real smart, but more than anything, capable army/navy officers. that, and plenty of gov. options in front of em, from loans to jobs both civilian and millitary.

I retrospect it was the best time of my life...but at the time, it sucked.
If it was the best time of your life and it sucked....what does that say about your life now?
Or do you mean that you didn't know how "good it was" back then? And only once you got out you realized the cool stuff about it?

I didn't appreciate the good stuff about it back then....the comaraderie, the travel, the chicks...etc.
I didn't mean to imply that my life sucks now...nothing could be further from the truth...but hindsight is 20/20.

I was in the NAVY. In an Engineering rate. The military was equally cool and shitty. Cool for the fact that I traveled around this whole planet(literally), and met many cool peoples, and saw many cool sights around the world. Shitty for the fact that it's not really though work(in my particular rate), but there is ALWAYS work. I had fun in the military though. Spent half my enlistment in schooling the other half traveling. N-Never A-Again V-Volunteer Y-Yourself.
