The movie "Waking Life" is a very good movie on dreams, every character is expressing their philosophies on life and consciousness in general. Its really good for getting your brain going, and the animation is interesting.

Don't forget "The Dark Crystal", "Labyrinth" & "Yellow Submarine" for when you'd rather just enjoy the visuals...

Should I watch television or movies while tripping? What are some good shows to watch?

By shroomism:

In general I try to watch as little TV as humanly possible. Especially while tripping.
However if you *must* watch TV or movies I would personally go for nature-oriented shows (such as discovery channel, science channel, etc.. hey.. you may learn something) that or cartoons. There used to be good cartoons like the Transformers, the Maxx, Smurfs, and of course Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy.. but I don't know so much anymore. Stay away from commercials and MTV, CNN and all that crap like the plague. It warps your mind. Try to watch uplifting things.

Movies I recommend: Liquid Crystal Vision, Fantasia 2000, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Yellow Submarine, Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka, Baraka. Of course it's a matter of personal preferences.. those are generally some tried and trued "good tripping movies". Of course there is the infamous Wizard of Oz syncing up with Pink Floyd's dark side of the moon.. you must start & pause the cd... then unpause at the end of the 3rd roar of the lion in the title. In fact you can sync your favorite music with many movies with a pleasant effect.

Video games are sometimes fabulous while tripping. :smile:

Spend less time staring at the radiation brainwashing box (although it has its good points too..), and more time outside with the trees and sky.

I personally do not enjoy watching movies or television while tripping forthemost part. My favorite trips are nature oriented, or sitting around in my room with blacklights and good tunes :smile: However, there are some good tripping movies, and cartoons are sometimes cool while tripping, spongebob always works great to alleviate anxiety for me :smile:Good tripping movies include: Altered States (corny, but good, heh); Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I personally cant think of any other good ones, but you generally want to avoid scary movies :smile:I personally do not like The Wall, as manyothers do, for tripping at least. Far too many disturbing images, lol. Anyway, thats my two cents, but only the individual tripper can answer this question for sure :smile:

Try watching a static channel if you have the balls. I have seen some intense stuff just watching white noise. You can make things manipulate and change at will on something like this- just don't think about Poltergeist the movie  :wink:

I havent personally watchecd Lost while tripping but I have to say I think it would be great. Even when your mind wanders and you lose the plot there would still be beautiful tropical rainforest to watch. Plus the show is bad ass. Peace

Nature IS better, but sometimes watching shit, or listening to music is the main event for a trip.

Funny, people seem to admit they listen to music MUCH more than they admit they watch the TV.

Granted, during a trip, TV or a Movie can be annoying... so can music.

But...

Don't lie to me, MANY folks trip indoors (Winter trips... etc) . Sometimes, (MUCH MORE OFTEN than some in this thread want to admit) a movie or television show gets played. Some movies and TV shows are better than others.

I actually LIKE watching shows like The Simpsons and South Park during comedown. And during come-up, I could live in the Shire from LOTR.

I like to peak in nature, or while having sex...

... or both.

Some said Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Please, I do not recommend any on there come up to watch this movie. Its just not the kind of vibes you want to start a trip. Its just to much. It really almost put me in a bad trip.

I've only "watched" one movie while tripping. It was my first trip and I watched Nightmare Before Christmas. I couldn't really focus on it for very long, I kept getting distracted by other stimuli, but what I did see of it was really interesting and wonderfully trippy.

While tripping in nature is my first choice, when I'm indoors I go for music (and sometimes glowsticks) over TV, movies or visualizers. I just can't stare at a screen for very long while tripping, it just doesn't... go with the flow.. at least in my experience.

Movies are always too long for me, no matter what it is after 45 minutes of watching it I just lose interest and feel like I should do something else.

TV shows can be great though, and I think what you watch depends on the drug you take. With pot I like the cartoon humor like Futurama, Family Guy and South Park. "Real" shows, ones with real actors and such, tend to look fake to me when I'm high. It looks like nothing more than a play rather than a TV show and normally this detracts from the show for me.

On mushrooms usually the last thing I want to do is watch TV shows of any kind, but occasionally I'll turn on those cartoon humor shows, or that new Battlestar Galactica series, but for the most part I listen to music and just let my mind wander.

But if you really want to get into some movies The Life Aquatic is a pretty good one. Donnie Darko if you're not afraid to get 'on the edge of your seat' during a trip. Run Lola Run is an interesting flick from Germany that I highly recommend, and the soundtrack is all techno/trancy. For straight trippyness I'd recommend Transambient 2, it's basically techno/trance music with video clips moving with the music. Very interesting stuff, I can get lost in that for what seems like hours.

Movies....
When I trip, I go with the flow....  I have not watched a lot of TV in the past 2-3 months because of my "quest"....  Now when I watch a "normal" TV show, it just seems fake....  Such is acting....  Now watching a nature show, is FUCKING GRAND....!  :grin:    All in all, movies can be good too....  All movies that are written well, and to the taste of the viewer....    If you truly have "control" over your thoughts, you can watch anything and be entertained if it is to your liking....  Just while tripping, it helps to have the ability to seperate yourself from what is on screen as entertainment....

I really liked ALL of the ideas presented in this thread so far....  Nature and outdoors would seem to be better, but I live in the city now, and don't really have a yard to explore nature....  So I sometimes feel stuck inside the house for my tripping excursions....  I REALLY like Green Osiris's idea of watching "white noise" on a TV screen....  :thumbup:  I will have to try that sometime....!  :grin:

A Simple Candle's Flame....
As I am surprised from reading Shroomism's words quoted above, that he did not mention what he suggested to me recently....  I tripped last night and did this and it was quite mezmerizing....  Used as a metaphor, it was also amazingly and powerfully "enlightening"....  A simple peaceful solitary flame from a candle seemed to take hold of my very being and had an "effect" on my "trying" to physically move even in the slightest way with "blissfully" perceived ramifications....  I don't know how else to describe it in words....  IT IS/WAS FUCKING GRAND....!  :grin:

"New" 3-D Movies....
For actual movies, I have a strong suggestion that goes out of "normal" movies that we may normally watch....  They were originally presented in IMAX theaters, and produced or distributed by a company called "SlingShot"....  You can buy the movies for home - I am sure with the same general effect as the IMAX presentations, only not so big....  They are 3-D movies that need "shutter glasses", which you can also purchase - all of which you can find on EBAY....

These movies are literally along the lines of a "REAL" rollercoaster, and some of the movies actually are presented as KiK Ass computer generated rollercoaster rides - with MUCH detail, and depth of perception....!  You don't have to be under the influence of anything to watch them, but tripping makes one actually be able to "feel" the movement in a sense that I have never felt before from watching something on a screen....  It can be quite intense to be able to "feel" the freedom of looking into a 3-D field of vision with movement....  It makes it feel like you are actually moving in the movie....!  You wanna~ go on one hell of a thrill ride in the safety and comforts of your own home....?    This is your answer....!  Again I will say, IT IS FUCKING GRAND....!  :grin:

3-D Movies that I have found to be the most profound in "effect" of movement and "thrill factor"....:
1)  Alien Adventure....
2)  Haunted Castle....
3)  Encounter in the Third Dimension....
In order, these are the best ones out of my collection that have the most "dramatic" effect while I am watching them....  If anyone has been to Universal Studios and been on the Spiderman ride, the experience is MUCH comparable to that - only you don't have to wait in any lines....!

To be noted, the "3-D Shutter Glasses" movies are not supposed to able to work on Plasma or LCD screen TV's, and it is recommended that one not view if he/she has epilepsy....    :smile:  :heart:

Scooby Doo (the live action movie), Finding nemo, and the interactive Gorillaz dvd's are very fun. I do not recomend the movie u-turn.

If you want a crazy trip, try watching the series of short films "Rabbits" by David Lynch, they are basically one constant scene, and the dialogue just hints at what the plot might could possibly be... And some crazy shit happens in the second movie.  Worth it to watch sober, too :smile:

Return to Oz is a sweet movie to watch while tripping. I first watched this movie when I was about 4 or 5 and I remembered it as a kind of dark and scary movie (for a little kid). Recently I ordered this movie off of amazon and watched it with a few friends while we were tripping and we all absolutly loved it. I highly recommend it.
