I saw vannilla sky today and I have to say it was great. Way better than I had expected. Very "Trippy" also I have a question for the poster. What makes someone talking about drugs trippy? I don't understand that.

Cool World. Dont let the name decieve you I can't even put into words how trippy it is. I haven't been able to find it lately but. Its kinda half cartoon half real life (like roger rabbit) and is enjoyable when your mind is very 'altered'.

>>Jacob's ladder would be pretty rough while tripping..
ROUGH? It's brilliant!!
I don't mean any disrespect to people with the following, especially younger peeps just learning what tripping is, but STOP harboring fear with regards to the "power" a trip has. EVERYTHING you experience in a trip is all within your own mind; your own reality. YOU control it...even if at times the drug itself makes you feel otherwise. If you have problems dealing with specific issues in your life in a sober state...you really should refrain from heavy trips when you are in those frames of mind. Death is a natural part of life...I don't see why so many people have such "problems" with it when they trip. In fact there was a study reported over on Erowid that showed LSD doses actually HELPED terminally ill people with adjusting to the acceptance of death as well as not fearing the transition.
If you cannot handle topics or issues sober...don't enter into a trip if those same issues are present in your life at that time. The ONLY damage done to you from a "bad trip" is your own denial of accepting whatever fear or issue it is that you are being forced to face/experience. REMEMBER THAT!

Stomp was awesome, you know, the music act that performs with trash can lids, drumming, stomping feet, VERY COOL. Not only is the rythm entrancing but the fast movement makes nice trails. It's playing on cable right now, HBO I think and I stumbled on it during my trip. I have to buy that DVD.

Watched both the Matrix and Alice In Wonderland this past weekend while I was out of my mind for a few hours. Alice In Wonderland was peaceful and I actually found it funny while I was tripping. (The next day I started watching it when I wasn't tripping and I hated it.) The Matrix was AWESOME except for a few parts that freaked me out (when his mouth like melted and closed, when they injected him with that tracking device, and then when they took the device out of him in the car, and a few others ... so you may want to skip over these).
I watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon the week before this and it was great. Everything just kept making me say WOW WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. Especially when they are flying around in the forrest, all the trees were nuts. Only problem was that trying to read the subtitles drove me nuts till I realized I better give up, then just conentrated on the movie without a plot.

try searching for: "Dark Side of the Rainbow" or "Dark Side of Oz" with KaZaA, you should be able to find it. It's pretty cool.
Btw. when I'm trippin' everything seems to sync (Microcosmos is great to watch with any kind of music! )

I think Fear and loathing is the best movie weather tripping or not. Most people that i know personaly are like "ahh that movie is the shit" and they go on to say how cool it is. It is cool but there are alot of points that people miss in it. Its just not a movie to watch when your all messed up. most people dont understand the movie to its full potenial...

for all you peeps who dig fear and loathing, you might as well pick up a couple of Hunter S. Thompson's other books. I've read Rum Diary and another one (i forgot the name), and they are all dope as hell. i liked F&L but i think it is a bit played out. trippy movie---> Being John Malkovich. definitely one of the best flicks that has come out over the past few years, IMHO.

i guess no one is suggesting Pink Floyd - The Wall because it is such an obvious pick (albeit a bit depressing)but then there is also Tommy - The Who, a very cool and trippy rock opera, and how about A Clockwork Orange? a couple that i have wanted to try are What Dreams May Come (Robin Williams stars in a story of a man that has died coming to grips with his state of being, meeting souls that he had known in life.... i won't say too much. should be incredible while tripping- i'll let you know. if you have not seen this yet, trip to it without watching it first. let it be a surprise) and Light Years, an animated Isaac Asimov story that is also a pretty good mind bender. oh yea! what about Fantasia? orginal and 2000 are both great visually and musically. and they are plotless, so they blend in as background nicely. they don't demand your attention. there are more, i'll think of them.

Was the rave in Madison last fall? If it was I helped set it up, and rolled that night! Anyway, here's the list of trippy movies I've come up with: 1) Pink Floyd's The Wall 2) Pi 3) Requiem for a Dream 4) Apocalypse Now
I'll probably watch one of the above when I trip for the first time, once my 'little project' begins to produce.

I'm going to have to say you're wrong on this one, I personally can't stand that movie too intense, not laid back enough, it's a movie that makes it's presence known rather than a movie you can just trip to. I just got this one, and i love it, Ancient Alien http://www.mydvdsource.com/product/dvd/movie.asp?ID=3271 saw it at some library exibit at work and figured they wouldn't be needing it anymore... Excellent movie and music interlay... well that's what i have to say.

I did shrooms for my first time a few weeks ago and it was absoulutely mind blowing. i did to many i think for my first time. i felt very overwhelmed. I had a bit of a bad trip. i just wasn't able to sit down and watch a movie. But, i'm doing them again(doing the same dose...4 grams). I have a really good feeling about this trip coming up. I wanna watch a cool movie(something kinda funny too). I have some movies on my mind(some which have been mentioned here).
Alice in wonderland Osmosis Jones Labrynth(or however you spell it)
Those have a more 'warmer' feel to them, than say shows like fear and loathing in las vegas. I've almost decided on renting alice on wonderland. i think that would be an awesome experience. I watched a bit of men in black while i was comin down and it was fuckin awesome also. You wanna know the ultimate movie to watch on shrooms though? This is coming from friends who are so experienced with shrooms...they do them a lot. It's not out on video yet(september). My friends went and watched it in the theatre on shrooms... Monsters Inc They said it's the most intense thing they have ever watched. It absoulutely messes with you while your on shrooms. the bright colours, etc. They say it's SO awesome. I can't wait till it comes out on video. Anyways, anyone have any other suggestions of movies to watch?
Oh, i might most likely be going to watch men in black 2 on shrooms. i think that would be awesome

There have been many of these "trippy movie" threads in the past. Somebody a while back mentioned a movie called the holy mountain. And I finally got a chance to see it. Made in 1973 it is hands down the trippiest movie. Many movies above are good but do not have the psycedelic power of the holy mountain. You'll have to go on ebay or a offbeat/cult/rarity movie store to get it. But well worth it.

That one movie about that kid who flies in his own dead conscience and shairs visions of philosphical rants of random stranges. The movie was in cell-shaded rendering. Totally forgot the name.

Jup, GL: Akira is one of my favorites too! It was my inroduction to Anime and still kicks the shit out of most other Mangas!
But, my favorite most-trippy movie is:
"FLATLINERS".
It's not exactly about Tripping on shrooms, it's more the Life-Trip and I think the dynamics of their experiences match those of Shrooms very well. Nr. 2 will be Pink Floyd's "THE WALL" but "AKIRA" is right up there at # 3! I never watch movies during tripping though. Had bad experiences with it and, to put it bluntly: "If you're gonna poison your brain you'd better pay attention!"

"The Adventures of Baron Munchausen" is the trippiest movie ever, with out a doubt!!! If you havent seen this one yet, then you are missing out. It is so different, colourful, and just all out trippy....like it was made for tripping. I cant believe nobody has mentioned this one yet. At least I dont think anyone has...I read through the thread pretty fast, so I might have missed it.

okay this is very confusing, i can't quite figure out how to post on the forum... oh well, here it goes.
i whole heartedly agree with the movie Waking Life. we rented that movie last night. from the very beginning i was fixed to the screen.
" I don?t want to go to sleep, and actually I can?t even imagine sleeping again. Right now there seems to be no point to sleep, it seems as if sleep itself is just an interruption. Or perhaps the reason sleep seems pointless is because I?ll just fall to dreaming, which would just be redundant. Am I not dreaming at the moment? How do I know the difference between wake and dream? Watching this movie has made me question this dream state. "
the above quote was from my boyfriend.. he typed it up on the computer last night a while after we watched Waking Life.

You guys will love this one. Check out: THE LAST WAVE directed by Peter Weir and starring Richard Chamberlain (circa 1980?) Nope. Its not a surfing movie. Its a supernatural thriller where Chamberlain defends two Aborigines accused of killing another Aborigine. The victim was killed by a shamanic chief using a "death bone". Chamberlain gets pulled into their dreamtime and experiences lucid dreaming and signs of the upcoming prophecy - it rains mud and frogs, etc. Very erie with a good music soundtrack. A second pick would be: PHASE IV - science fiction from the late '70s. In this one, ants mutate and show signs of becomming intelligent as researchers attempt to communicate. Not cheesy like it sounds - very well done. Ant photography is worthy of National Geographic. Great storyline, mediocre acting. It has a wild surprise ending! These two are somewhat obscure and may be hard to locate.

A Clockwork Orange, it's probably more "weird" than " trippy", but great if you're in an altered state none the less. It has a lot to do with the music in the film.

Just saw "Wakeing Life" it deffintly is at the top of list at the moment "Rocky Horror Picture Show" but only if at a midnight showing theater just sitting in your liveingroom and watching it while tripping its funny but tripping in the theater with a good permanate cast doing the show in front of the screen and the audiance pertisipation makes it a event not to be missed. and lastly Spauding Grey's "Swimming to Cambodia" or "Monster in the Box"

For myself and maybe a few others:
Between Time and Timbuktu, which was aired on PBS in the 70's. It's based on the book by Vonnegut which is actually a "best of Vonnegut".
This work is based on materials by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Stony Stevenson wins first prize in a space poetry competition and trains to become an astronaut. Newscasters track his progress as he travels through space and time in the Prometheus Five space ship. Mission control loses track of his movements, and he finds himself wandering from one bizarre situation to another. Elements of various Kurt Vonnegut stories are incorporated, and Stony finds himself on the island of San Lorenzo with the outlawed spiritual leader Bokonon, in a bizarre totalitarian courtroom, in a laboratory where the "Ice Nine" formula is being created, in a society where everyone's talents are equalized by government-imposed "handicaps," and in a suicide assistance "parlor." Finally, Stony meets a young girl on a fire engine, and she tells him he is in heaven. The parade that ensues is interrupted by the appearance of an Adolf Hitler figure who is supposed to represent death. He and Stony face off in a match that Stony pegs as "death against imagination" with Stony as the victor. In the final scene of the work, Stony finds himself back at his own grave on earth, where he is told that his space ship arrived at its destination, but his body was never found. Vonnegut's works were adapted for television by Fred Barzyk, David Loxton, and David Odell. David Atwood provided special effects, some of which appear to have used the Paik-Abe videosynthesizer.
A very intense movie, a definite blast, I would imagine, to watch tripping.
Only the older folks here may remember it. I've heard it was available in a few public libraries in NYC,but I've yet to track it down.

just had to mention: in the "Insider" with Pacino and Crowe, towards the end of the movie when Russel Crowe is in his hotel room alone thinking of his family and the background starts to morph into his dream...WOW! that caught me completely by suprise, seeing as how this movie has nothing to do with tripping!
Oh, and FYI, Derron Arinovski (writer and director of Pi and Requiem for a dream) is slated to do his next film on Batman (!!!!) can't wait to see how it turns out? you think bruce wayne will be popping pills throughout the movie? lol!!!

I don't really watch movies when I'm getting shrilly cause I don't like to be confined in my apartment.. But when I do I always put Groove in, on mute. I'm surprised no other ravers have mentioned it.. It's a true story about a really underground party that went down back in 1997, in San Francisco. It shows all kinds of situations that happened that night re-enacted. There is a chemist in it, who teaches at the local college, the promoters dealing with cops, someone rolling their first time, a crackhead in the basement.... I could go on and on. I've seen this movie so much I almost know the words. Check it out! Awesome visuals on mute when tripping. Its like a rave in my living room... Oh wait, I don't need the movie for that
Peace Out!

oh, I forgot to mention Waking life, its pretty new so dont know how many people have seen it, i read the back posts and didnt even notice that a couple of people mentioned it, anywho, the animation in the film is fantastic, unlike anything you've ever seen directed by the same guy who did slackers and dazed and confused, oh and there's a movie coming out soon with samuel l. jackson "formula 51" (I think, i was about to type formula 409 but realized i wasnt cleaning my bathroom) about a chemist who creates a new drug. should be great

Two movies I'd HIGHLY recommend to watch while tripping..
Donnie Darko, which is confusing enough completely sober, also an extremely well done indie flick, and
Metropolis, the new anime version. Very colorful, fluid plot, fantastic contrasting soundtrack.
Tommy Boy is a great movie to watch stoned though..

Not gonna rehash all the others that have been listed tho I agree with a lot of them. A couple more to try are Eyes Wide Shut and eXistenZ. Eyes Wide Shut gets really freaky especially at the party in the mansion, with all of the strange masks, imagery, etc. eXistenZ is just plain weird (but cool); basically a game designer creates a massive (and very strange) virtual reality world that you can enter into by inserting this game pod into the back of your neck, and you will be questioning what the hell is going on exactly, even after the movie is over. So anyway check them out!

trippiest movie ever, while sober or not, i would say is Tetsuo:The Iron Man.
look in the Foreign section for a shiny metallic box. And dont miss the crazy mini-movie after the tetsuo credits.

No one has mentioned any Westerns. I nominate Once Upon a Time in the West, Sergio Leone's ultimate Spaghetti Western. Each of the three main characters, Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson and Jason Robards, has his own musical theme. The film has little dialog and alternates between beautiful landscapes and mind-blowing closeups that seem to last forever of each character's face. A religious experience. Also check out The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas would be hard movie to beat for "Trippiest" I haven't seen all the other movies ppl named, especially not on shrooms, but i watched Fear and Loathing on shrooms last week and it tripped me the fuck out. The movie is made to have a different effect on you when your state of mind is altered by certain types of drugs, ex. shrooms. You see different things in the movie, ex. those damn bats on the highway. And you hear things differently also, ex. the way it sounds like johnny depp is talking in your head/ saying exactly what you're thinking. Alice in Wonderland was very good to trip to also!

I watched Sky High a few weeks ago on shrooms. I had no idea what was going on but the special effects and many colors were awesome. Kirt Russel was also hilarious for some reason.

<img src="/forums/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
Love & Light,
Boppity

What's the name of the movie where the guy is doing DMT, gets set up by his friend, flees into the bathroom, says he has a gun to buy time to flush his goods and gets shot dead and then goes throughout the movie as a disembodied entity until he's reborn into his sister's womb?
That was a fucking trippy movie! Just can't remember the name of it.

YES!!!! Thank you. It was bugging the crap out of me that I couldn't remember the name of the film. Strange movie, but I dug it. I learned about it from this forum. I think I ordered and watched it on-line on a week-end where my wife was away visiting her mother.
