Theories

I was thinking the other day while a little blazed about theories. First off I would like to apologize to anybody who is religious that I may have called a "fairy tale believer". I now realize that I shouldn't see them as fairy tales, but as theories. Ancient myths were theories that have now been disproved. Theories such that Earth is sitting on a turtle or something like that. The major religions of today are theories that have yet to be disproved. I see no credible scientific evidence backing up these theories. One of the only theories I am interested in is Human Evolution. It seems there is more and more evidence every year to back up this theory. I am also interested in the Big Bang theory. Lately there has been some good studies done on neutrinos which is helping advance the Big Bang theory. So again I would like to apologize to any of you religious theorists out there who may have been offended by my "fairy tale believer" remarks.

The major religions of today are theories that have yet to be disproved.
A theory is a working model that describes something based on available observations and other evidence, and that can be tested to verify if it's true or not by additional observations and experimentation.
A mythological story made up out of thin air (religion) is not a theory because it is not supported by observations or evidence and cannot be tested by experimentation.

I think their are neither theories nor miths, they are just words from unknown origin, or at least unclear origin, or unverified.
Allthough i think those words have been heavily twisted in the history till now, and there is a lot missing that we haven't found/heard, I think the original idea could not have been thought up by some manipulative medival priests, it's far to sophisticated for that.

Maybe so. My issue is with the use of the word Theory, which has a very specific meaning and which is often misused; Creation 'Theory', for example.
Creation is a story, not a theory. If it were a theory, it would have to conform to the requirements of a theory; it would have to be supported by observation, testable by experimentation, and it would have to be falsifiable.
Creation is dogma, myth, story, the divine word of $DIETY, anything you like, but it's definitely not a theory and since it?s based on faith, it is not falsifiable. In other words, whether creation is true or not is irrelevant because it cannot be shown to be wrong even if it is.

I saw a lecture by a Catholic Priest/Astronomer. It made me see the whole universe differently.
I do believe in the "theory" of human evolution.....I also believe in a "higher conscience" (god?)
Not a God in the biblical sence(omnipotent/allpowerful)..but a God/spirit that was their at the begining.......bound by certian laws......but has a complete understanding of how the laws work and how to create life in the universe.
Modern science says that "evolution" is a random event.......I believe that "God" has been guiding "evolution" read this post

I don't know which is a more baloney 'theory', science or religion
also using one theory to prove or disprove another theory in theory doesn't work

Science isn't a theory
science:
-The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena. -Such activities restricted to a class of natural phenomena. -Such activities applied to an object of inquiry or study.
theory
-A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena -An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture
I still maintain that religion is nothing more than a psychological tool. Some need it, some don't. Some use it for good, some use it for evil.

Modern science says that "evolution" is a random event
Actually, evolutionary theory is about Selection, which is the exact opposite of randomness.
Animals with characteristics that lend themselves to higher survivability and increased likelihood of reproduction tend to be Selected for by the fact that the given animal is less likely to be eaten and more likely to reproduce; thus passing the favorable characteristics onto their offspring, reinforcing the characteristic in the general population, and over many generations, causing the genetic drift that accounts for speciation.
Nothing random about; it's directed by its environment.
