Make sure you get the Gro-brick brand. I would not purchase the stuff that said it is fungi resistant.

My friend used Bed-o-Beast (found at Petsmart- used as lizard bedding). He is on his 3rd flush of Thai k.s. with no sign of contams yet! Just make sure you rehydrate it with boiling water. He also mixed in oyster shell.

I got tropical gold brand from the feed and seed store here in Maine. Pasturized for an hour at 175 no probs yet.
