:yesnod:

Just ripped my morning nug so please forgive how convoluted this is maybe gonna come out:  from your message you said "probably end up looking like lolipops if they dont stop growing by the time they actually do conk out."
:filosoraptor:
I'm new to Reishis, and heres where my head is at: I sealed all airholes on tubs to promote high co2, to get antlers.
Say the antler grows to 16cm and then I start to promote more air/ provide the environment for conks.

NOW THIS is where the confusion for me comes in: is the Reishi who is 16cm gonna just be able to make a flat conk on top- to sporulate presumably- so being the lollipop we mentioned; or is there a chance the whole of the fruiting body would then TURN into a conk: widening and flattening the existing antler shape?
:feelsgoatman:
IE: once the antler turns a certain colour/ has been in its current state for a certain time- is it "set in its ways" or have your seen a full antler turn to a conk?
~

I've plucked some from one of my tubs and they seemed to be sporulating already from antler form, and were softer than I thought they might be. This tub was harvested prematurely mind you, from fungus gnat incursion.
I just have no idea how Reishis go, but find them very cool & enjoying watching them.

:edit:pic tax, far out plate condensation:

:deemsters:

This is my first reishi grow, however, to my understanding the new growth aka the white tips on the top will turn into the conk. Once the color changers to that darker color its hardened and will stay that way.

Here's a picture and fake tax of Paul Stamets holding resihi that conked after being antlers.

EDIT- My dudes have been around for 3 months now, not sure how much grain fuel they have left or how long they will go for on a brown rice grain with oak pellets. They may conk all the way, they may stop purly based on time. I have no clue.

this is my first as well, mine are coming up on 2 months since S2B.
The coverage- for example, pics in your brown rice tek thread- of both your Reishi tubs is impressive. Looks great!
:hellyeah:

Yeah, that Stamets pic is 100% what I thought as "lollipops", I sort of assumed the new/white tipped edge of the fruit would be all that 'changed form'.

As for the grain spawn, who knows how long it'll feed them but I think my spawn often has more life left in it than I often give it credit for, when it comes to retirement time.
I know semp are notorious for longevity, but once I kept my little semp tub alive over a year and it was still pumping out the jams quite happily- that was off like 250ml millet IIRC. Of course, difference in fruit constitution etc is to be considered, a lot more 'meat' in a reishi antler than a semp.

Anywa, cheers for the response- godspeed to your Reishi on their journey to conk, have fun.

Mine only conked when I gave them tons of fresh air, and like Lo-Z said twas only the white tip.

And some wild ones I found at my in-laws.

That is a SOLDID run Lithop!!
:leocheers:

I'm planning on running a pastywhyte EZ-Dial for the next run of reishi. I want to push the limits. my goal is to make enough reishi for my relatives and I to have a year supply of reishi dual-extraction tincture Grow one tub a year and keep it rolling =)

Icky Tax !CONTAM WARNING!

My first attempt with vendor purchased grain, sub, and monotub. Forever pushing me away from pre-bought anything. Same culture in CVG + shoebox flushed beautifully.

Noice! Any clue what makes them blob more vs not? My only true hint is straw definitely outputs more mutants.

I have two clones to put on grain of those, pumpkin pheno and a fat cap pheno that looks more like Jack Frost I suppose.

Sibu a Costa Rican landrace, trying to get prints.

Yungella (likely yeti) cake, 70g wet

Half pint of MS grains of KSSS spawned to a deli soup container.

MOAR

Another Yung cake, what I thought was albino wild australian but in retrospect its likelier I mislabeled a yeti plate or jar :l

I'm very impressed by how resilient straw tubs are. This is maybe from 2 months ago? They are slow though.

Time for a new rack hack:

Ziploc Fruiting Chambers suspended with two clips (this is a smaller batch from a pint of spawn)

I did a few tiny cakes in 100ml pp5 snack containers, a single sandwich bag can make a water fruiting chamber.

Well, I don’t have a yard or any kind of room to do other exotics.  The big pull for me with pans is that they’re so damn fast.  It’s totally my speed these days.  I don’t think I could go back to a mushroom that takes any longer honestly… I’d just give up the first time I lost something I worked any decent amount of time on.

And I’m still learning new things about pans all the time so there’s still work to be done.

Thanks!

most of the work has been done by a company preparing the grow kit. It will deliver fruits inside the included bag even not requiring any experience - designed for people not interested in art of cultivation. At least they enjoy environment in my tent.

Have had a hard time with LC for some time and a couple of shoeboxes and ultimately decided to buy a grow kit to harvest some spores (unavailable to buy in my area) to start properly from petri dish. Surprisingly I have managed to score TTBVI, Weza and P. Ochra prints right after, so they journey has just begun.

Spores are available in you're country (more than likely). You've just been looking in all the wrong places.
